Has anyone used / know about Balcar system. I might be getting a used one with a assymetric A2400 pack and 4 lights.

High quality kit, also known for the quality of their light modifiers.
At the other end of the scale, Alien Bees have the same fitting so you can get reasonably priced modifiers too.

The guy who is selling it to me tells me he has quite a few modifiers, GOBo, 2 soft box brollies etc. I'll see when I pick up on Saturday
2 problems with the kit : 1. 3 modelling lights are gone. I think its cheap to replace and 2. One of the dimmer for a modelling lamp is not working; so the modelling lamp is always on. But since this is on the 2nd light, rather than the primary; I think its less of an issue, since I can avoid using it. I wonder if the potentiometer can be fixed by a local repairer. Who will be reliable one?
Anyway for a couple of hundred; its worth the punt, I guess

Get yourself to Maplin and you coould have a go at replacing the pot yourself.

I would have Chris; except that
1. The capacitors are capable of a nasty shock; and
2. I am the worlds worst DIY-er.
So I would rather pay someone to fix it; or live with the problem.After all, one of the modelling lamps on constant lightinging is not the worst outcome
