Looking for bags that fit within carry on limits, but with better strap padding than an F-Stop Lotus...

Just come back from 3 weeks in the Canadian Rockies, and therefore my bag was stuffed full of gear and heavy. The straps just weren't up to it unfortunately. I do carry on one shoulder quite frequently, so that's never going to help, but even with both shoulders, it wasn't comfortable.

I also have an F-Stop Tilopa, which has much thicker straps, but is probably bigger than carry on limits (not by much to be fair, but...). I just don't use it often enough to justify keeping it.

(Also got an F-Stop Guru that I use on my bike, which I'll likely be keeping)

Potentially looking to replace both..... Any suggestions? I do like the ICU system

I have both the Lotus and Tilopa, the Lotus I use as my lightweight scouting bag with my Fujifilm X-T2 kit and lightweight tripod it's good for a day out but when I am out with my MF (film or digital) and big tripod the Tilopa is my bag of choice as you have noted the straps and waistbelt are much thicker and more comfortable with the extra weight. I think a lot of the extra comfort with the Tilopa is down to the fit of the bag I find it's taller profile a better fit for me (I'm just 6 foot). I did have the Ajna which is the same size as the Tilopa but has straps more like the Lotus so was really uncomfortable with the MF kit for any distance.

I've seen padded and stiffened thingies that fit over a strap to spread the load, not sure if it'll help. I've also seen one guy using a pack frame, great straps, his bag was fastened onto that.
I've been thinking of getting the padded things for my lowpro, the straps are half decent but with the weight I carry they cut.

I can't remember what my big F Stop bag was called, but it was above the Tilopa, I used in as carry on a few times, but not full, so that it would squish down into the box.
