Hi everyone,

I purchased my Canon 650d a little while ago and need a case for it but am a little overwhelmed by all that's on offer.

Can anyone recommend a good bag? I'm not going to be taking loads of equipment around with me. Maybe at most just a couple of lenses.

Also don't want to break the budget and buy a leather one or anything.

Any advice greatly appreciated as always

Thanks

Sarah

All I'll say is that photo kits have a habit of growing and what your kit will fit into today probably won't hold it all in 6 months! I would recommend that you take your current kit to a retailer with decent stocks of bags (ideally from a few manufacturers) and see which one accepts all your current kit and leaves some room for expansion.

I use this one -

For a small amount of equipment it is fine.

Mine holds the camera and kit lens, a 50mm lens, a 70-210mm lens, spare battery and charger, phone charger, rocket blower, lens cloth, a few filters, the camera manual, a pair of 10x50 binoculars and has a little bit of room left over.

It does have drawbacks - unless the camera is packed at the top you need to almost unzip it completely and to do that it needs to be laid down, but it doesn't cost a lot and doesn't particularly look like a camera bag.

For a shoulder bag, have a look at the Tamrac Rally 4 or 5. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and price.
Rally 5 is used to carry what's in the sig below...

I've heard a lot of praise for the Amazon Basics rucksack.

Take a look at the Think Tank and LowePro offerings on Amazon. They're both good kit.

Pop down Comet. They have Lowepro's. My Dad just got a £30 bag for £12.

Thanks everyone. Will take a look at these recommendations :-)

You'll probably end up with 2 or more bags at some point if you buy one to fit everything in (as I did) as they tend not to be that practical as your kit grows or when you want to travel light and only take 1 lens out (thats stuck on the camera), meaning a smaller bag is ideal.

I've got a lowepro nova AW 200 bag to fit pretty much everything inside and a crumpler "easy weasy" backpack style bag which has become my go to bag. It fits my laptop in, a drink and food plus my D3 (so gripped bodies no problem) with a lens attached to it without issues. A few of my friends have some small lowepro bags for their smaller DSLR bodies and one of them owns the same camera as you and she got a bag from jessops that fits the camera and kit lens perfectly and is tiny!

Upto you what you buy at the end of the day, but personally don't go "massive" for your first bag as they tend not to be as practical as initially hoped.

Hi Sarah

The Lowepro Nova bag is worth a look at, I've had one for a few years now and am very pleased with it. If you want something slightly different, the Crumpler bags are worth a look at, my daughter has one and it's a very nice bag...

I've always like slingshots and the similar bags
they do scream PHOTOGRAPHER nowadays though but they're handy and can fit in a few things
my old one takes a body, 3 mid size lenses and a flash plus odds and ends
at a push I can get a 70-200 in the side (not mounted on the camera) or even a body with a grip if I restrict the other bits in there

You might be interested to know that Jessops are doing the Lowepro Nova 200 for £49.99 at the moment.

Thanks for all the help everyone.

I have gone for a Lowepro Nova 160 AW off Amazon. Seems like a good little bag and carries what I need at this stage :-)

Thanks

Yes you'll be happy with it. I really like mine, but as has been said, you'll end up with more than 1 bag in the search for the perfect one :-)

Enjoy it
