Hi everyone, sorry not been around for a while, due to ill health. Anyway i have a jessops shoulder bag at the moment and i find that it seems heavy even though i only carry minimum equipment such as 1 camera with lens, spare batteries and a few filters. I would like a new bag that would maybe distribute weight more evenly. But i dont like backpacks and prefer a bag i can access without putting it down, could anyone please suggest something that may suit me.

I liked the sling bag as it puts the weight evenly over your back, the bag stays out of the way while shooting, it stores a fair amount of stuff and its easy to slip in front, access what you need and put it back. If needed there's an extra clip to keep it on your back.

+1 for the slingback style bags. I have owned all 3 of the Lowepro Slingshots (100AW,200AW and 300AW now designated 302AW etc) and I currently still have the 100AW, ideal for 1 body and a couple of day to day lenses + Accessories like filters and enough room in the top for a sarnie and crisps  . I also have the Tamrac Evolution 8 when I need to carry more gear but thats a weightier proposition all together.

I use the 100/102AW almost every day, its great for just chucking in the car for casual day to day shooting, the 202AW is closer to the Tamrac in size and the 302AW is just stupidly huge and holds a couple of bodies and 6 lenses and is heavy regardless of how you wear it and is why I no longer have it.

The slingshot style is great for weight distribution as StephyB says and you can just sling it forward to have instant access to your Camera body and currently mounted lens without taking it off, ingenious.

I bought the Think tank sling-o-matic 20 recently, and I love it. I had been using shoulder bags for ages, used to have a lowepro sling shot but never liked it. Took the chance on this one as it's perfect for when on the bike, I cycle daily and I wanted something that wouldn't be tossing about on the move.

It fits real snug, you can switch the strap over in a second for the other shoulder, if your usual one gets tired. I can fit a good bit of gear in there too. There is a smaller version, the sling o matic 10, if you don't carry lots of gear, or the 30 for more, obviously. #

I didn't pay that much ^^ I bought it local for €130 [£105] - I'm sure if you shop around you'd find it cheaper.

Thanks everyone, i quite like the look of the lowepro slingshot, i have had a look on the internet at them but it doesnt say whether a camera would fit with a battery grip attached. I have a canon 600d with battery grip and will shortly be purchasing the tamron 18-270 lens which will probably be on the camera most of the time, can anyone tell me which of the slingshots this would fit in.

I've always used the Domke range and find them perfect for exactly what you describe. I currently have 3 differing sizes that suit every occasion or amount of equipment. You can some times pick them up used on the 'bay and these are the kind of bags that improve with wear so no worries buying used.

I've got a Lowepro 100AW slingshot and my camera will not fit with the battery grip attached. Can't comment on the other versions. Hope that helps.

The 200aw will take your gripped body , the xxxD canons are quite compact. The 100aw has a neat fit 5" height clearance for grip and body. I only have xxD bodies which are bigger so cannot check this but I used to have a gripped 450D in my 200Aw.

Ok thanks everyone, i will be going to check out the 200aw as soon as possible, thanks for all your help. :-)

I use a 202AW here usually. Takes a Nikon D300 with grip and shortish lens fitted no problem, space for a flash, charger etc, couple more lenses and all the usual 'vital' junk that I carry around.

Do you reckon that bag would take a D800 + 300mm f.4 Nikkor (maybe with a 1.7 TC also) ?

Thanks for all the advice, i am now waiting delivery of a lowepro slingshot 200aw, trouble is though i have been looking at the lowepro holster type bags so i might want one of those too!!

I received my slingshot on Friday and am really pleased with it, went out for a couple of hours and it was much more comfortable than my shoulder bag, i even forgot i had it on a couple of times, camera fits a treat with battery grip attached with room for a longer lens. Well pleased, thanks for all your help. Now let me have a look at those holsters!!!!
