I suppose like other folk, I have a cupboard full of different bags.

I would like to hear from anyone who owns the above gear as to what their favourite bag is.

I am looking for a bag that can easily accomodate the body with either of the above lens attached but at the same time it has to be easy to get in and out of the bag.

Shoulder bag would be nice as i do a fair bit of walking round and I find a Rucksack type bag can be awkward in crowds.

The only true bag I own that will allow the D3s to be attached to the 70-200 whilst in the bag is a Lowepro Slingshot 302AW. Its a nice bag but I am finding it hard to arrange it so that it all fits and works hassle free.

I use the Vertex 300 (changed from 200) as he combined weight of my kit makes it impracticable to use much anything other than a back back. I also carry the D300s in the bag as well.

Not Nikon Ian but I have both the 200 and 300 Vertex which I use for storage at home..but i recently picked up a second user Reporter and it is spot on for your needs.... I have a MKiv with 70-200 mk2 on it. A second MK3 body,135f2 and either the 24-70 or the 24-105 I can fit a speedlite and batteries in there quite comfortably...There is also a Laptop pocket on the rear too. The bag isnt in your face neither ...Highly recomended. I can put my stool across the top of the bag before closing it too.

lowepro flipside 400 on special offer at morris photographic

I love my reporter, I've about 7 bags for various kit and the reporter is always my favourite if I'm not taking any big lenses out

Other option is a billingham, lovely bags and plenty of space, also very quick to pull out what you need and start shooting

Without a doubt, the ThinkTank Urban Disguise 60 is my all time favourite shoulder bag. It will take your stuff easily as well as accessories and a light jacket or a decent sized laptop, but best of all you can get a very compact shoulder harness for when it gets a bit painful, which fits in a pocket when not being used. Mine carries a D700 (with grip), 24-70, 70-200, 16-35 (any mounted), Metz flash, filters, diffusers, etc. The shoulder harness is surprisingly comfortable and best of all it doesnt look like a camera bag.

I use the same combination. A bag that will hold that lot is not so convenient when you actually want to take pics.

I put D3 on a Black Rapid strap (RS4) and use a Lowepro lensswap case so changing lenses can be done quickly and you have somewhere to deposit the removed lens whilst you take out the required lens from the case.

Tamrac Velocity 9x will fit the bill, with the bigger lens attached or down one side

Got to agree here - the Urban Disguise range is great, especially as it comes with the shoulder strap and can also buy an option harness to make it in to a rucksack.

I have an UD40 (smaller than the 60) and can still fit a 1D, 5D2, 24-70, 70-200 (hood reversed) and 17-40 plus a speedlight and accessories. I can even fit my iPad in.

If you don't want to reverse the hood, or want to carry a laptop, then the UD60 is the best bet. The look very subtle and are extremely hard wearing.

As an addon question to the above,I have the same gear but require a bag that I can take onboard flights with me, i.e. fits in the onboard luggage dimensions. Is there such a bag that fulfills these criteria,as a frequent flyer to Africa? Thanks in advance to any of your replies.

I have a Vertex 200 for the following:

2x D2x bodies
70-200 VR
85mm
50mm
14mm f/2.8
SB800
60mm macro
10.5mm fisheye

All this goes in like a glove, plus you have the front pockets for bits and bobs.

TBH though, I prefer my old Burton Zoom because of the rear access and it was more comfortable to wear. But the Vertex is better in bad weather....

Ive been using a Stealth Reporter 500 for over 3 years and it's still as good as new. Carries what you list and room for some other stuff.

ThinkTank Retrospective 20 - I use it with a D700 and 70-200 (hood off or reversed). Its a shoulder bag, but has a very good (read comfortable and non-slip) strap. Pretty sure it would fit a D3. Price is around 125.00. I got the black one, which is very nice and discreet, but does pick up a bit of fluff.

can anybody recommend anywhere to buy thinktank bags?

harrison cameras treated me very well :)

For pouches, depending on what you're doing, I love the newswear belt pouches ... crazy well made pouch system, but not quiet velcro - definitely designed for hard news work. Less fiddly zips and toggles than the thinktank stuff.

It'd take a brave man to seperate me from my thinktank roller though :P
