I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a bag for my new Canon 500D and the 18-55mm lens. I'll be getting more lenses in the future for it, so not sure if it is worth getting a bigger bag that will have space for them, or if I should stick to one that is just big enough for what I have at the moment?

Any advice is much appreciated!

Stick with one that is the right size just now, maybe with a little extra space and a divider for say a flashgun. I like my gear to be snug and not rolling about. I have kept my bags from over the years so that I now have a bag for almost any combination of bodies/lenses etc that I want to take on any particular day/shoot/conditions. So if you buy a small case it wont ever be redundant even as you expand your kit.

What sort of bag are you after? Backpack style? Over the shoulder? Room for anything else other than the camera necessary?

I've got a Lowepro Altus 140 - it's small and an ideal size for either body with lens attached, plus extras like cf cards, batteries etc or body with 2-3 lenses if unattached, plus batteries etc.

I've been using a Lowepro Slingshot 100AW for the last 3 years to carry my 400D with 18-200 siggy attached, as well as a flash gun, spare batteries and battery charger.

It only got snug when I got a lightsphere collapsible

The Lowepro Exchange Messenger is a decent bag, Jessops have them for £19.95, that's the cheapest I've seen, some reviews on youtube.

Crumpler JimmyBo 500? I can get 500D, 17-70mm, 50mm (in a little cubby/section at the bottom) and Sigma EF-530 Flash in it with little fuss. All the little sundries fit in the rear part of the bag and there's still a bit of room left for a couple of filters and stuff

Ah! but that's the hard part

Got a Jessops nearby? Take your camera and accessories in and try them out.

Look at Lowproe Passport new and the best bag i have seen for a 550D extra lens flash good body protection. Clever expandble zip function and very light.

:plusone:

I used a Lowepro Mini Trekker Classic for a couple of years before changing to a Slingshot 100 which I picked up for 12 quid from the TP forums. It happily holds my 450D and 15-55 (same size as yours), plus room for an extra couple of small lenses and a flashgun!

It's also a nice slim pack, so it doesn't get in the way when you're wearing it.
