I bought a Sigma 50-500 earlier in the year because I needed something longer than my 70-300, and they were a great price at Park Cameras.

So far, I've not strayed far from the house with it but now I want to start using it properly at airshows and the like, only thing is it won't fit into my existing bags when it's attached to a gripped D700. So it's time for (another) new bag.

I'm torn between a holster type bag like the Think Tank Digital Holster, or alternatively a larger Lowepro slingshot (already have a 200). I like having easy access to my camera hence my preference in the past for the smaller slingshot, and also a Lowepro toploader for when I'm just taking body and smaller lens. Given the focal range of the 50-500, I'm not likely to be packing any other lenses.

What are other photographers using for larger bodies and lenses?

I'm in a similar situation having just bought a Sigma 150-500 for my D200 and needing a decent bag for it. I've just started looking so will share any info that I come up with.

Well if its any help 3 years ago I bought a GEM backpack type bag. & with rearranging the internal bits my Cannon 7d with Siggy 50-500 and hood attatched go down the centre with smaller lenses down the sides. takes the laptop as well. Has tripod sleeve and its own waterproof mac. Has good padding although I have added some additiomal just to be on the safe side.

In fact I can put so much stuff in it that it gets too heavy to carry. It is holding up very well to the abuse it has had. Cost me around £30/40 at the time and I am well pleased with it. OK not a posh brand name or price but does the job admirably.

OK not quite what you are looking for but as its a heavy camera healthwise a backpack would probably be better. If you only taking that camera and lens then plenty of room for sarnis and wet weather clothes or whatever Lol.

I have a Lowepro aw 400 flipside. Fits my 300mm Tair (which is fairly big) and has moveable insides. Might be worth checking if it fits in there?.

Currently the bag has 35mm, 50mm, 105mm 300mm, flash, d300, 11-16 tokina, tubes, 2x m42 converter - thats just the main inside, the outside bit can hold the memory cards, trigger, small torch and extra bits and bobs.

Fairly pricey at 80ukp ish, but feels well built and padded.

See if a camera store has one and bring your 50-500 with you to test size?

Oh also has a tripod catch bit on the back...
