Yes
When I first bought my SLR and started to acquire lenses and accessories I bought myself a Tamrac Expedition 3. I could fit everything in, ,looked nice, job done.

Once i started getting out and using it I found it was a bit of a pain if i wanted to change lenses or batteries, put bag down, open flap, remove lens, put away safely, attach new lens, close bag, throw bag over shoulder and carry on.

After getting frustrated i bought myself a crumpler XXL shoulder bag, lovely! Easy to change lenses, plenty of room jobs a good un although i do now have a hardly used Tamrac in the cupboard doin nothing.

So, started thinking again last night. I fly to the states in April, airline says I can take 1 carry on item. I have my Camera gear but also need to take my laptop!! Panic!!

So i am now looking for yet ANOTHER bag that accomodate my camera gear and laptop gear and still be comapct enough for carry on luggage. :bang:

I realise this is down to lack of fore thought on my part but has anyone else had these frustrating times with something as simple as bag?!

It's enough to drive you nuts!:nuts:

I have a lowepro minitrekker which fits as my cabin baggage but doesnt hold a laptop... so i cant take one :bang: because if i buy a bigger bag to fit the laptop it wont fit in as cabin baggage.

Maybe some airlines have bigger size limits but Easyjet is 20cm high... and it doesnt work :(

Also some airlines let you carry on 2 items so you could have a laptop bag as well... but not easyjet.
I guess it depends who you fly with.

Who are you flying with? What is their carry-on allowance? Airlines vary hugely in terms of what they allow you to take on, and without that information we can't help you.

...and do you want to flog the Tamrac? I need one for a trip to the states and my current bag is going to be no good at all...!

Cheers,
James

what about one of these:
crumpler daily L

they do different sizes depending on the size of your laptop...the one linked to will fit a 14" one comfortably, maybe a 15" widescreen depending on the actual size of the laptop. I've been thinking of one of these but it won't fit my 15"W macbook pro in and I think the next size up might be too big

I'm sorry if i wasn't clear in my OP, I wasn't really after advice on airlines and baggage (though thanks very much for wanting to help :) ).

I was just venting and enquiring if anyone elses bag requirements change as often as mine seem to do, also maybe spark up a debate on camera baggage. :)

Edit:
Ooh, that crumpler looks nice. :)

Moos3h, you have a PM. :)

Referring to your original post... then YES!

I continually wonder if I should take all my gear around everywehre with me in the minitrekker backpack.. or put a smaller amount in a shoulder bag for ease of use.. but would I then wish I had added another lens that I left at home!!

It's the bane of my life! :bang:

Think you need something like the Tardis (as in Dr Who!!:D)
By the sound of it you will be well over weight for a carry-on bag. Think you will need to either pack something in the hold (I know I would hate to though) or have a second person with you to split the valuables with. Have a nice trip. Holiday or work?

Easy jet dont go by weight... just size.

A tardis is would be perfect i think. :)

It's a holiday, well when i say holiday we are off to see the in-laws. :help::runaway:

I recently got a Lowepro Rolling Computrekker Plus for carrying all my gear which is fantastic as it holds everything, but I'm travelling this month by Easyjet and I don't think its going to fit, a few cm too high. :bang:

Ouch that's harsh. I've never flown with easyjet as dont really hear anything good about them, other than they are cheap.

I just rang the airline (Delta) to confirm about luggage and seemingly they changed the policy at the begiining of Jan, so you are now allowed 1 Item of hand luggage and 1 Personal Item. They list a laptop or camera "case" as personal items, so I may get away with it, I think i'd still prefer an bag that holds everything though.

Its very strange. On the Lowepro website it states that my Mini Trekker is 32cm high.... when it in fact measures 20cm when packed and will therefore fit into the space provided by easyjet as their cabin baggage.

Does this then mean that the Tamrac Cyberpack 8 which states it is 29cm in depth.. would actually be a lot less deep in real life and would fit also?

Janice

It may be that the top pockets of the Minitecker when stuffed full of everything else that wont fit inside may extend to 32 cm. My one is currently 24 cm high.

I don't know how strict Easy is, do they have a jig or similar at the airport to check these things ?

I gather there is a hole and if you can fit your bag in then its ok.

I was just contemplating the tamrac cyberpack 8 and wondered whether they too overdo the external depth dimension on their written specs, and it would in fact fit in the hole like the lowepro.

I have taken an expedition 5 on easy jet...no problems.just make it look like its not too heavy and you should be fine. although with the numerous L's I had it wasn't that easy but hey ho, got away with it ;)

ouch
i looked at this in detail a while ago and found that the biggest you could go was the Computrekker Plus - non rolling version, as you have found it is too big - but you may be able to use it if you can remove the wheels or use some compression straps - bungee cords??

Thing is when I was looking to buy it all the reviews I read said it was fine for carry-on travel (Lowepro even label it as this).

On the upside I paid well less than half price for it so if the worse happens I can probably sell it on without making a loss, which I'd rather not do as its a great bag.
