Looking for some advice on a bag. I have a thinktank streetwalker pro and a mindshift firstlight 40

looking for an in betweener

looking to carry typically
D850
z7

irix 15mm
nikon 20mm
sigma 24-105
sigma 70-20p
1.4 tc
spare batteries, 4/5
remote release
filter holders and filters (10-12 no 10px150 in pouches) plus holders

gitzo 5 series and 3 wayhead strapped to outside

weatherproof

would like some space for lunch/ jacket but would give that up for right sized bag

looking for backpack, not rotational, happy to take off

would appreciate thoughts on options here. I like thinktank/ mindshift quality but not wedded to them. Dont mind a bag and right sized icu combo

iknow its a personal choice but wading through websites is desperately boring

I'm as picky with my camera cases as my wife is with her purses, and cannot imagine that choosing a new backpack would be anything less than exciting.
Edit: It shouldn't be too boring to go to a site like bhphotovideo and search backpacks. You don't have to buy from them, but they probably carry more types than anyone else, with complete descriptions and reviews. You have the gear, so you know the size, and only you know how you want to stow and access everything. Once you've narrowed your selection down to a few different models, it might not be a bad idea to ask here for opinions of them. Good luck!

I just watched Gareth Danks youtube review on this bag - Shimoda Action X50. They come in different sizes I think. Very expensive but looks the ticket.

I must have 10 camera bags and don't particularly like any of them. The Lowepro ones have been very durable, The Tamrac ones are a great size but fray and fall to bits. I would love to just have a couple of bags that I really like and after watching that video I will be looking at that brand

i was looking for an inbetweener to the streetwalker and 40l mindshift. These suggested bags all look bigger than the mindshift.

i did the website trawls and boiled it down to Gitzo Adventury 30l and mindshift backlight 26l

shimoda action x30 was in mix but insert just too small

pulled the trigger on the backlight. Mainly as i could find it actually in stock.


thanks for the suggestions which i’ll keep in mind if i’m upsing

My Tamrac is nearly 50 years old, well travelled in deserts and mountains, and doesn't show much wear. And I don't particularly baby it. Either you are rough with yours, or newer ones are not as well made.

I have three and two are very worn. They are all under 10 years old so maybe built to very different standards to how they were previously.
 
I like Billinghams, I didn't used to but I've sort of come to like them. I like that you don't have to unzip a zip or rip some Velcro to get to the gear and thus maybe avoid spoiling the moment or attracting attention, if these things could matter.

I'm pretty sure I've messed up in trying to reply, so please forgive me. Since I wrote I recall that not long ago a colleague bought a new Tamrac bag and the zipper was improperly sewed in. His wife resewed it, but it was still misaligned and didn't zip smoothly. If they scrimp on workmanship, they'll scrimp on the material. Billingham bags don't seem so expensive, after all!

I have a billingham i was given as a present. It’s a very nice well made bag but i really need a backpack for walking. I keep my startracker setup and bits in the billingham as i‘m not humphing it far along with camera gear and big tripod or surveytripod, about 10m from the car boot is about righ when in that frame of mind
