Also have access to private woodland and would like to take pictures of badgers. Wonder how you lit the scene? I have been considering options including flash guns best lens f2 and highest ISO is 1600. I am not happy about using a flash gun but can't really see any other way to light.
 
That's taken with a motion sensor camera that takes a short burst of video when something moves across the field of vision, it lights up a bank of LED lights on the camera
Normally for photographing them I use an LED head lamp to light the area so I can focus on the white stripe and a 70-200 2.8
Badgers have very poor eyesight and seriously don't notice a flash going off,
you just need to sit very quietly and wait for them to appear, this can take ages, and hence the feeding to get them used to my scent so they aren't spooked by me being there, sometimes the shutter noise does that to start with
