I only just discovered a bunch parakeets in a park near me and want to get a good photo or twelve, but it's just too gloomy. My RAW procesing skills are fairly non existent and I only have CS2 available.
Show me what you can do

I had a go with Lightroom:

Adjustment brush +exposure over the birds and branch.
Adjustment brush desaturate the background slightly.
I did try adjusting the WB but felt the birds lost their colour, so I used the adjustment brush to add a blue tint over the background and help the birds stand out.
Darkened the green channel.
Upped the black clipping, Noise reduction, +vibrence and a slight vignette.
Hope you like it :)
 
It's probably enough to play with the fill-lights slider in camera raw.
