Me(Vectra GSI)+Soutra overtaking lane (scottish borders)+unmarked polis car(silver BMW estate) = £60 fine n 3 pen points... BOO!!!

thats why they are unmarked so they can catch you

;)

His point is, speed cameras are there to catch you as well, yet they are clearly marked.

It is quite tempting in those overtaking lanes to go nuts and try and get past as many as possible. Obviously a bad idea though.....

Ok you clearly didnt properly read and understand what I said.

Exactly Blue Eagle. Speed cameras are clearly marked, but why dont they follow the same principle as undercover cop cars and 'hide' them? They would catch more speeders.

Dont get me wrong, Im not saying thats how I would like it to be - I just find it a bit of a 'double standard' how one method is clearly visible, one not.

Well technically speed cameras (or safety cameras if you like) are not so much to catch you but to deter you from speeding at a dangerous part of the road known for accidents.
Well, thats the official line anyway.
Also, unmarked cars, however sneaky they are will always be better than cameras as they can catch dangerous drivers (dodgy overtaking, jumping red lights, drunk drivers etc) that a plain old speed camera will never do.
Still, I had to laugh, when they charged me, they asked if I had anything to say. So I said "Stop hitting me and I'll sign anything you want!" Funnily enough, they didn't write that down :)

Oh not at all. I'm not blaming anyone, especially the polis. I'm just ****ed off at myself for doing somthing so avoidable and costing myself £60. No doubt my insurance bandits will use it as an excuse to bump up my premium.

One of those things. It's a bummer and although we generally all feel we don't deserve to be caught, it's usually because we do.

It'll make you a better driver though. I got caught last year doing 97.5mph on the M6 Toll and got £60 plus 3 points - since then I rarely go above 80mph on the motorways and deffo stick to the limit on any other roads.

LOL, if their radar said 97.5, what did your speedo say?

i must admit i do normally use the M6 toll as an excuse to boot it

Don't care to think about it!! ;)

The toll has tons of cops on it at times - apparently becasue they know a lot of the local car dealerships take clients out for a razz

I got clocked at 80 in a 60, though in my defence it was an overtaking lane near the top of the hill in good conditions.
If you dont get past the slow ones by the end of that bit, you are stuck behind them for miles.
I don't think I did anything dangerous but I speeded n got caught. Nuff said.

Hopefully they had a laugh about it though...:D

i think speed cameras are fair enough really, but some are placed in stupid places. I've seen quite a few at the end of Dual Carriageways. If you have two cars side by side at the end of a DC the most dangerous thing is if they both brake! Sometimes you need to be able to accelerate to get out of trouble.

And why, when I'm doing 70 do people pass me at 80 and then jam their brakes on to go to 60 when they see the speed camera (in a 70 limit).

The A303's got a couple like that just past Stonehenge going West: Cameras in a 60-zone so naturally everyone slows to 45...:bonk:

I might be getting a safety camera voucher through the post, just drove through the 40MPH roadworks on the A1 at Hatfield on auto-pilot. Not got a clue if if I was doing 40 or 70 .

It could be expensive :(
