Ok so I went and brought a Canon 100mm f2.8L IS USM macro from jessops yesterday for £740, they said it will be here today and promised as I need it for a job interview that I also have today. I went in and now they say they do not have it in after they ordered it yesterday.

Then the guy tried to say for your inconvenience I will give you £5 of free prints hmmmm the past 10 items I have brought from you you have gave me £5 free prints anyway.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Tony.

You know if Jessops let the workers that love photography run the store you would'nt have this problem. Instead the bean counters do that and are doing what they do best. Sinking the ship.

I stopped using them many moons ago. My heart bleeds for all those guys in there that care.

As for you duttytd ..... shout loud long and hard until someone wakes up and takes note.

Verbal contract, they took your money. Have at them :)

To be fair if there is a delivery problem, ordering the day before you need it, is not best practice.
Leaves no room for any error.

Jessops are very rude - I went in their to spend £800 on a camera and they guy treated me like your in here wasting time you can't afford this camera (I'm taking it because I'm young) he knew little to sweet FA about the gear and was useless.

I went next door to Jaccobs and bought my gear from their!

I wouldn't touch Jessops with an extended monopod!

There's that story about the photographer who walks in to Jessops and inquires ' do you have umbrellas in stock?' and the Jessops man laughs and says ' this is a camera shop!'

Can't remember where I saw that, might have been a magazine or something.

They promised me it would be there.

They might but if the delivery lorry breaks down you are stuffed and they say quite reasonably "it was out of our control"
Always allow enough time to sort out issues, never arrange things like this for the last minute.

I have to say I've bought from Jessops on many occasions. Always pleasant people to deal with.

Way to tar everyone with the same brush

Jessops shops are totally different from one store to another, some are useless, some are great. Just pot luck what your local one is!

yep have to agree leave things to the last minute and then blame everyone else when things don't go right.

Good luck for the interview though.

I agree fully with the statement, Jessops is my go to shop and my local branch is brilliant. Like all shops there a few staff there who I don't like as much as others but majority are fantastic.

Many times I have asked for help and got fantastic advice and service.

I have also visited other stores that lacked general customer service and product knowledge. Hit and miss!

I'm not blaming everyone else. It was the store manager who told me it would be here today as I told him what I needed it for and he said redditch have one you could go and collect but your passing through town to go to your interview so I can have one sent here today and it will be here in the morning. So I ent with that choice and it turns out it was not the best choice.

Sorry but I would not say its bad customer service. Ok, they said it would be here next day and it wasnt! Things happen. Human error, delivery problems for example. The IT system may have had a glitch. The fact that you left it till the day before you needed this for an interview (cant think why you would need it for an interview) smacks of bad preparation - I wouldn't leave something important till the day before?

Am I the only one (apart from Simon) wondering what sort of job interview requires you to buy a £740 lens before attending?

what waiting till the last moment before ordering somthing needed for an interview lol

They can't help problems outside their control - its not bad customer service either

I got the call for an interview the day I ordered it. It's to work in a studio as a apprentice and they asked me about macro and said bring your macro lens. I was going to buy one anyway. I have the lens now.

Ahh, so if you didn't get the job would you have been returning the lens to Jessops the next day? :naughty:

HAHA! I imagine this has happened a few times - they have no idea! The staff seem to have no interest in photography and look more like greasy haired dodgy door to door salesmen

There you go, fixed yet another sweeping statement about all Jessops staff.

It would be like me going in to a bad photo here and calling everyone else on the site rubbish as well! Wouldn't really be fair would it!

I don't work for Jessops by the way, I couldn't be doing with people coming in who think they know it all but really don't. I do however work in a job where there are members of staff who are so idiotic that:

1) All they talk about to customers is getting bladdered all the time.
2) Think Florida and New Zealand are next to each other.
3) Think they are going on a holiday to HAMSTERdam.
4) etc etc

If you tarred me with the same brush as some of these idiots, I'd hit you :p

I had reason to phone Dixons' customer "service" recently - "Hello, Mark speaking, how can I take your name?"

:thinking::shrug:

Me: "How can you take my name?"

Mark : "Yes, how can I take your name....."

:bang:

HAHAHA, it really doesn't surprise me at all :D

You get bad eggs in every CS/sales job as its sooo easy to get in to. Our staff turn around is silly.

But then, you get just as many bad customers as bad staff! :p

Just to annoy the OP I ordered a Canon 50mm via Jessops website for collection in store. Delivery was due Saturday 25-06-11 for collection from then till Tuesday 28-06-11 and traveling back from Wales, I was beginning to think how work was shaping up for next week I wouldn't be able to get to Bury to pick it up.

So I was pleasantly surprised to get a call from them this afternoon (Friday) to say it was in store. And guess who was only 20 minutes away from the store?

Guess what i'll be doing for some of the weekend?

I think it is just luck with jessops stores my nearest never has anything in and nor does my latest privately owned shop (to the extent last time I was in I genuinely asked if they were closing! I was wrong!) I need a decent local camera shop or a chain store that gives a monkeys about its staff and customers!

So they fill their shop with goodies, then all anyone does is go in, fondle the merchandise and then go and buy it online from somewhere else at a lower price......

Not the case I always try and buy accessories etc from a store and I have actually bought my first slr and 3 lenses from jessops stores. I can't speak for others though!
