Ive been searching around for photo books and ive gone to a lot of places. Ive had a few made with blurb and they seem ok, but they dont have the trendy edge im looking for.
Photobox look interesting but their layouts are rubbish.
Asda have a half price thing on now and I really want to get one but they just dont let you add a vertical portrait onto the page.
Its frustrating because I dont want to spend all that much, £15 or so and it seems nowhere offers any decent layouts apart from Blurb.

Any ideas?

I've ordered a couple through iPhoto. If you have a Mac, that's certainly a viable option. People say they're more expensive than most, but certainly have a professional look to them. I'm just about to order a large hard-back one.

They probably are more than £15 but worth every penny when you see your own photos in a real book :)

Photobox have an offer on till midnight on Friday. Buy one get one free on their photobooks, which makes it £19.99 for 2. I've ordered a few.

it seems that photobox has some terrible crop options, and I just cant seem to fit the pictures

how do you go about doing this?

thanks

Create an album in iPhoto, or select the photos you want and then just click the book button. (with older versions, there's probably a file menu?) You assemble the book in iPhoto, then it gets uploaded. It's fairly fool-proof

My sister got a photobook made up of her holiday shots from prague and used Snapfish - http://www1.snapfish.co.uk/ - the book is nice and the prints seem great :) I didnt ask about how easy it was to layout but she didnt complain about it. She has a whole range of portrait and landscape etc. No none 4:3 ration shots though. So maybe not good if you want any of that stuff :(

I use Mypublisher, they often have offers on.

I've used YoPhoto before and was pleased with the results. They're more expensive than Photobox but you have more control over the layouts. I've heard photobox pages fall out after a while because they are poorly made too (glued not stitched).

There's also Albumfactory.co.uk . They have downloadable software. Not used them though so can't vouch for quality.

I've had a couple of bad efforts from photobox. You're right about the crop options, it's not always obvious when you are setting up your album so that books arrive with heads chopped off etc. Photobox are always happy & very quick to reprint for you, but in my case coudn't cure the problem. I decided no more books until they had upgraded their software.

I did not like Photobox's options either so I set up a full page template in PS - and created my own sets and uploaded them as full pages - this worked very well.

The wedding images on this page were some of the pages from the book. Doing it this way also has the added benefit that you can have the backgrounds any colour you like instead of just black or white throughout the book.

I have used album factory in the past and never again. Quality of work and binding was terrible.

I use iPhoto now and the books are brilliant.

Did anybody tried the Photobox new personalised cover type photobooks yet?...i am reluctant to try them again...

ive used Cewe and their software you download to make the books with is very simple to use and a lot more versatile than photobox

I've made two photobooks with myphotobook.co.uk, and been extremely satisfied with both.

Glad to hear that, I have just made one this afternoon, software is nice, easy to use once you get your head around it and upload is OK, a tad slow but that may be my connection - looking forward to seeing my creation now !

I too have used myphotobooks for a couple of years, had one issue with an upload corrupting the data of the book and the final printed layout was not what i wanted, wrote then a real nice polite email explaining the problem, got full refund for both books when i ordered the next two. Sweet.
Currently doing another using there software which is great.

Yes, they were excellent at addressing a problem I had as well. The first book had been damaged ever so slightly in the post, a tiny dint in the front cover, hardly noticeable really. But because it was a special book of a special holiday, I wanted it to be perfect. So I contacted the company to see what they could do. I was expecting them to say please return the book, blah blah. Instead, they replied immediately, very sorry, duplicate album on its way. The second album arrived within a week, so two excellent albums of our Namibia safari for the price of one. Then we got an album done for Paul's mum, lots of old family photos scanned and uploaded, and that was excellent as well. We will certainly use them again.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but found it whilst looking for something else.
For those who can't find the layout they like why not just use Photoshop to make your page layout's, save file as one jpg image then simple drop that one image onto your page in whatever companies software you are using. Simples.

Im going to produce a limited run of books.
So would you recon that blurb would be a good un.
I need to keep the costs down but also to keep the book cost down.
Cant be wanting to charge £40 as people wont be interested..
Or is there any other that you would recommend that have high quality?
