Well I knew it would happen, its got to a point where there is a lot of bad advice flying around this forum, its all well intentioned, the problem is people are believing it and the amount of arguing is starting to grow. It is starting to remind me of another photography forum ****.

Just wondered what everyone else's take on this is ?.

do you have something specific in mind?

hadn't noticed, myself
(unless it's me of course )

There is a lot of good advice too, but I am not sure what you mean, by "bad advice" would you care to elaborate?

I'm not disputing that there is loads of very good advise.

Have I just come out of a time warp ?
cant say I have noticed, and have only had good advise from the users of this site.

Must admit I haven't noticed either.

I don't think you could call what you read here arguing. There are a great many different views and with the wide diversity of people on TP it''s inevitable not all will agree all of the time.

You can please some of the people some of the time, but never all of the people all of the time.

PS I'm not arguing just giving my opinion.

No nothing specific just generally.

Its a little hard to fix something unspecific and general imho. I've not seen any real bad advice, and if I do I'll try and correct it.

Might just be me, But I havn't noticed any arguing??? Generally I find the advice on here to be sound, that is of course, when people take the time to reply ;)

Hi. New guy here. Can't say I have seen any bad advice at all. Unlike every other forum I go on there is even debating. But here most people agree with one another.

 Come on mho, please give us an example or two. How can we change or better the way we present advice, if the majority of us are not aware of 'bad advice' given in the first place. Also, what arguing? Have I been asleep for the past few days:thinking::) Please, this site is for helping everyone at all levels. :)

Think the arguing might be reference to the mac v pc thread that recently re-appeared and went again. I have seen some people offering opinions that differ to mine, but I dont see that as bad advice. I havent noticed anything different recently to be honest.

Yeah I thought that too. Its good to see that there hasn't been any incidents like it since, that both sides are able to calmly discuss things.

Lots of healthy discussion and differences of opinion sure, but bad advice? Not really seen any of that

Now if you want to see real arguing, come along to our club competition nights! Teddies flying everywhere sometimes

It's difficult to comment Mark without knowing to what your refer?

The last thing we want is misinformation propagated on a board which caters for all levels including beginners. Generally speaking I'd have thought we had enough seasoned hands around the place to pick up on something like that?

Differing opinions about technique etc, is another matter and is bound to happen, but give us a clue mate. :)

...or is that the whiff of troll I detect?...
shirley not:nuts:

I'm not listing / pointing at specific posts, as I don't want to offend anyone, as I said in the original post, is not intentional i'm sure, just misinformed information. But when its offered as advise, to someone asking for help / info on a particular matter its not helpful.

I'm not looking to cause mass panic / finger pointing, I just wondered what other people thought that's all.

If you knew Mark you wouldnt be saying that..;)

Tim....thank you.

I agree with Pete on this one, there are bound to be differing opinions about each individual subject, some members will have more knowledge about particular subjects than others & their opinion/advice will carry more weight.

As far as I can see here, the worst that can be happening is that some people might take a piece of advice as correct when it's actually wrong.

So..........?

If it's about a purchase, especially a large one I doubt it will be made on the strength of one posters thoughts on here.

If it's about technique and it's wrong. Not really a big deal is it. The shot wont turn out as thought and the snapper will learn to question that persons advice in the future. Not alot lost.

it's a good board here. Always has been and probably always will be. Good difference of opinions/takes on most issues and most importantly, the freedom to voice them.

A troll is someone that pops up on a forum just to cause trouble and start an argument. If you can call swaping insults on the web an argument that is.

lol compared to the forum i was on before, this site is much friendlier, yeah ppl don't always agree but it gives ppl the opportunity to try different things and see what works for them. As for poor advice i would suggest that's more a case of ppl who don't know better or who have miss understood. Plus beginners give beginners advice and you pic up stuff from all over. There is the one guy who name maybe someone could help me with who rants and says that most stuff is pointless because the technology in cameras combined with PP means you dont have to get it right in camera. ie he says tripods are a waste of money cos u can up the iso. Personely i think he talk rubbish but hes getting quite a following.

not sure but i would think that most people on here are willing to help..:naughty:

if you see somone giving bad advice please shout up..
as if i gave someone advice and it was bad i would want to be put on the right road as im sure most if not all on here would

just my two pennys worth

carry on

md:thumbs:

Not me is it Toothie?

I agree though -

tripods are useless, except when they are vital
technology of modern cameras can do anything, except where it can't
PP can solve everything, but not when it's wrong in the first place
upping the ISO is brill, until the noise reduction software reduces the sharpness to the point the shot is crap

hmm - okay I don't agree with your mate then!:lol::lol:

Oh no, am I a troll now? :shake::shake::shake:

No not u, some famous photographer who's up setting the establishment, i agree with u though i rarely use my tripod but on the waterfall shoot i did yesterday it was indespensable. (and thats descission not an argument:thumbs:)

Pah, you're not even the little billy goat gruff. ;)
