Hey guys & girls!

I'm pretty much starting from scratch, and by no mean consider myself a photographer, just a guy who likes to take pictures and hopes they turn out good! I've got a canon 60D and a couple of lenses.

But I don't have any way to carry them around! I've looked on the web, been in shops and I just can't decide. The prices on amazon range from £30 - £200 and to be honest some of the backs over the £100 mark look the same as the ones for £30!

Can anybody make any recommendations?

I've got a tripod that I'd like to be able to attach and I will be getting a flashgun at some point so there needs to be space for them too!

Thanks in advance...

Allan

Hi and welcome to the forum. There's a lot of bag threads on here and I always reccommend the same make. I've had 3 Tamrac bags so far and still got 2 of them, 1 backpack and 1 shoulder bag and both very large as I carry a lot of gear around. They do a whole range of bags in different sizes to suit most peoples needs. They are excellent bags, very well put together and very strong.

Lowepro bag should be considered in my opinion, I have 2 of these and they are excellent

Les ;)

I use a GEM 152 backpack, and it can hold all my kit (550D, 5 lenses, flash, other misc. kit and laptop as required), can also fit your tripod to it as well and includes a rain cover. It is based upon the Lowepro Computrekker AW bag, as I found out today on TP. Retails new at @ £40 inc. delivery (Amazon sell it), great value IMHO. Has taken a lot of knocks and keeps all my gear safe.

Thanks guys,

I've been raiding through the different threads about bags all day.

However none have lead me to any I like. Modchild, the tamrak bags look great and ebay has them reasonably priced. But I'm just not sure.

I quite like the Lowpro Flipside 400 AW.

I'll need to keep looking just now.

I quite like the Lowpro Flipside 400 AW

Reckon that would be an excellent choice, really pleased with mine and has everything I want or need from a bag

Best point being that even if its feels weighty when picked up, doesn't when on your back

If you can get to a London camera exchange try there, they have a good range, I brought my think tank streetwalker from them, it's quite slim, I can fit a couple of lenses as well as a 150-500 sigma on my camera and it has a really sturdy tripod foot on the back, along with a rain cover. It goes for about £130, not sure what you are wanting to spend but I could get more kit in there so it's not going to need to be replaced with something bigger!

To be honest I haven't set a budget for the bag. My theory is I've got a good camera and a few lenses, I want them to be protected when I take them out. Not sure I want to stretch to £130, but I guess it depends on how I like the bag!

Thanks Roy....

They have a good selection to go through.

I have taken a bit of a liking to the Tamrac Aero Speed Pack 75.

I have seen a few canvas/duffel looking bags on amazon, but they don't look protective enough.

I'm trying to get a flashgun as well, but I just cant stretch my budget that far at the moment.

What ever bag you choose give some thought of what items you might put in it at a later stage as you add lens and flash. At this stage you can always take up the excess space with a fleece or packed lunch.

I had a lowepro flipside and it survived a fire well enough for me to retrieve the SD Card from the camera. My only word of advice is a 400 will be quite a big bag, I have a 300 and was over kill for me (body, 2 lens and flash)

I use this one -

http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_1&products_id=110011

It is small but has enough room for

camera + kit lens,
50 mm lens,
70 -210 mm zoom lens,
spare battery and charger,
phone charger,
a few filters,
blower,
cloth,
10x50 binoculars and has a bit of room left over.

It is not waterproof (but then few rucksacks are) so a waterproof cover could be useful, however I reckon it is very good for the price.
