No
please.

Today Ive been out hunting for landscape shots and had the dog with me and even the tripod. It made me realise that my current setups too cumbersome for a wander (Stealth reporter 350 shoulder bag) so Im thinking about something along the lines of this manfrotto one https://www.wexphotovideo.com/manfrotto-advanced-travel-backpack-black-1557182/

I only have an olympus EM1, a 12-40 f2.8, the cheapo 40-200, and the samyang 7.5mm. So, not like i need a lot for the camera itself, otherwise, a couple of filters, a spare battery, and thats pretty much it!

I really don't need room for a laptop etc either, but I do have a manfrotto 190xprob tripod.

So, in the top id like to carry say a down jacket and a waterproof, don't really think Ill need much more but guess there could be days that a bottle of water and a butty would be nice.

So who has real world experience of this sort of backpack and is there any they would recommend or avoid?

I have owned a few bags as my equipment as grown. I have a Tenba min messenger that I still use a bit and lowpro BP protactic 250both of which can hold all my gear. Which consists of lumix G80, 12-60, 45-150, 45mm macro, 20mm oly 9-18 and samyang 7.5 mm spare batteries and a few filters. The main reason for the backpack was just to spread the weight around a bit more and I can attach a tripod on as well could also attach a drinks pouch as well if I wanted. Like you not carrying a laptop although I can get my tablet in side it as well, but not really space for a jacket. I did look at the think tank urban approach 15 that was slightly bigger in that it can carry two bodies and a lap top so you should be able to configure it so you can maybe have a jacket and butty in there as well. I have had think tank bags before and only went for the lowpro as it was cheaper and avaiable at the time I was buying it. and fitted all I needed.

Hope that helps a bit not sure what else to suggest you look at.

Aye, ive come across the Gregory stuff but hard when you have nowhere nearby with them in stock to see and try on, thats why im tempted to go osprey as ive got an exos 48 which is too big for photography but great packs. Plus even more tempted at the moment as they are 20% off at Go Outdoors too currently.

Probably of no help but I neverthelesss thought that I'd offer to take some piccies of my rucksack with all the gear that I manage to fit (ram) in! It's been with me for 4/5 years and in addition to several motor racing excursions, it has had a few trips abroad. My only heisitation is that you can't buy them new any more. It's a Kata bag - now part of Manfrotto, I believe.
The offer is there, though, just in case it might be of some help. I manage to get all my kit in, plus tripod when neeeded and in the top section, a thin raincoat and rain trousers. I've even been known to force some sandwiches and a banana in to the space left over but that's pushing it.
One other thing I really like about it is that although there is a waist strap (if that's what they're called), when not needed, mine tucks away out of sight.
