I know this is a well worn subject but:-

Looking for a backpac to carry D90 + 4 other lenses including one long one (Sigma 120-400) + batteries, filters ect. and that has convenient attachments for mono and / or tripod.
I'd also want a compartment for spare clothing, documents, food & drink for a day.
Ideally I'd like fast access to the camera & for the pack to be compact enough to qualify as hand luggage on planes.

Toughish brief perhaps, but fairly common I'd suspect.

Thanks in anticipation.

I can tell what not to get unless you are doing a six month expedition to the north pole, to include a small bungalow, 600mm lens and every mod con going:

AW Pro trekker II - its huge and I look ridiculous carrying it about.

Rant over.

;)

The standard-sized bag is no more than 56cm x 45cm x 25cm (22ins x 18ins x 10ins), including the handle, pockets and wheels, although it does depend on the airline. I use the Lowpro Photo Trekker AWII which came with the Trekker Daysac, that would suit all your needs down to the ground apart from aircraft luggage. You could have a look at the Lowpro Nature Trekker, Tamrac also do a good range.

what about the........

I've got a Think tank streetwalker HD and it's fantastic. It doesn't have a separate compartment but i just make a section with the dividers to put clothes and food in. I looked at the lowepro bags when i bought this one, and went for the thinktank mainly because it just seemed to be better thought out than the lowepro bags. I've now got nothing but thinktank bags.

Downsides are it's expensive and you need to buy another waist belt because the one that comes with it is rubbish.

Any more suggestions much appreciated.

I'm leaning towards the Lowepro Vertex AW100 which Amazon are doing a cracking deal on at the moment.

i've just got the vertex 200AW,and it's a great bag..although i doubt you will get everything in your brief in it,with regards to food, clothing, although some light clothing would be able to fit into the laptop section.

i have just got the Kata DR 467.. does what you want and can take a lap top too i got mine from amazon..

Can you attach a tripod to the bag easily?

Another vote for Kata bags. Mine (R-103) came with a tripod attachment, so I assume others would too. Easy enough to carry one around using the kit they supply to fix on, and it's quite adjustable (eg fit it on the back or the side).

yes i can ..and you can buy wheels for it should you wish too

I also have a vertex 200AW and it's a great bag for all of your kit. There is an integral Laptop section which could take a small amount of clothing (lightweight stuff) but depending on how you organise your equipment inside the main compartment, I dont think you'll get food in there as well!
This bag also has glide locks on three sides for various other attachments and/or up to three tripods/monopods.

It's a great bag but as with anything of this size, when fully laden, you wouldn't want tot carry it round all day!

I also have a Slingshot 200 aw which allows me to select only the kit that I know I will be using and use that as a day bag.

Hope this helps and good luck choosing!

Thanks mate!
