Can anyone recommend a decent external backup system that will allow me to quickly and safely backup my work on a regular basis. I currently rely on a 1TB SATA external drive but would prefer a multi drive setup that will automatically backup as i add and save new work .. if there is such a system ?

There are loads of posts on back up strategies, mainly in the computers etc subforum lower down the page.

It sounds like you want something like Drobo as the hardware. On a Mac I'd suggest Time Machine as the software, but not sure about on a pc.
 
I personally like external hard drives+ archival dvd. I don't like automated backup, I like to disconect my external drives when I'm not actually backing up, this reduces the risk of deleting the wrong file, and removes the drive from any computer isues.
