Yes
My parents have a PC and a Mac, and they really need to back them up as they contain business files and that's quite important :D

What would be the easiest way to achieve this? Bare in mind that it needs to be really simple, the Mac is a Mac Mini. Both machines have CDRWs, NOT DVD RW's. Both machines have 40gb HDDs.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks

i found that one with a 'one touch' button on it works works well for my dad. he's lazy and doesn't want to get involved with all the workings of it so i set it to back up everything with one push and he just does that once a week or so.

Just be aware that the external drive will have to be formatted to FAT32 if you want to be able to read and write to the same drive on a MAC and PC. If the drive comes preformatted to NTFS you will have to use the MAC to format it back to FAT32 (or MS DOS file system, as the MAC calls it)

you should be able to do that in windows under disk management too :)

I'd stand corrected but I don't think you can format back from NTFS to FAT32 in windows :)

The company i used to work for had this for their macs

http://www.cancomuk.com/products/se..., Restore, Clone & Synchronise Data Mac OS X

Can be set-up to auto backup at a specific time / day etc. The great thing is the first back up is complete drive, then its only what changes during the day/week whatever your schedule is.

Can also be told to save back up on external drive etc, and i'm sure i have seen a windows version of it

Well i'll use Superduper for the Mac, as it's by far the best and simplest :) Not sure on PC software though. Ideally i'll have a HDD for the PC and one for the Mac, but if money saving comes in it'll have to be one that's moved between them.

Any ideas on PC software?
