Hi guys i am about to pop by my local habidashery to get some material for my background. What is the best type and colour.

(i definitely need black as one)

You'll likely find the cloth isn't wide enough, which is why we buy background materials from specialist dealers. Look on eBay for cheaper deals.

And read up on black backgrounds you need something with a pile to kill reflections.

Hi Phil. Thanks for the reply.
Well for today's shots its only for small objects. So i figured 1.5 meter cloth would be ok.

Yesterday i came across chromakey. So now looking at getting a green Muslin as well

If you're doing small objects on black, definitely go for velvet.

I went to look for velvet today,
it all seems awfully shiny, are there different types?

Velvet can sometimes appear a little shiny, but the pile should kill unwanted reflections, like the felt inside a lens hood.
