Background width for full shots

Hello

I do the product shoots for our online women fashion website.

I currently have a 3m wide muslin and it always had more width than I need for full length shots. I am upgrading to vinyl because the muslin was too much post processing for full shots (it was fine for cropped stuff) and I dont have enough space to blow it fully.

My stand can be set to either 1, 2 or 3m width. I am trying to decide if I can get away with 2m width vinyl but I worried I will struggle with the full length shots. Whats your experience with background width ?

Thanks

I found 2m just too narrow for anything other than standing poses or portrates... 3m gives you a LOT more versatility in terms of poses etc... I also found it easier to control the light on a larger drop... maybe its just me and my lack of skill

thanks for that, I am new to photography too. I have no doubt that the 3m will give me more options and allow me to do more stuff as we grow. The question on my mind was wether I can get away with the 2m ... knowing me I will probably end up with 2.5m vinyl back ground

Hi MacAddict,

Have a look at this post for some more info on vinyl backdrops. A few of us on here have bought some 2.5m wide vinyl for substantially less than you'd pay for a Lastolite equivalent.

Hope the info is useful.

hi bulldozer, its is indeed and that thread is what inspired me to go for vinyl. I have also found a local supplier that can cut to my size for a reasonable amount. they can even do colours and have said its 630 gsm
