I've been looking at various versions from Calumet to Bessel to eBay. I'm not sure what I'll be using as a background yet so would like ot hedge my bets and get something quite strong. Any recommendation?

Hi Dean,

I've got a set of the Kenro ones here... It comes with two stands and a 2.5m cross piece and costs about £80. It's probably not the most stable of set-ups (especially when a bunch of half-drunk upper-sixth form prom attendees get near it) but it serves my needs well enough. :)

I bought the Lencarta one last week and used it in anger for the first time last night. Works really well, the stands feel quite sturdy to me (and survived a plethora of 16 year olds dicking around by it), comes with a convenient carry bag too. In my opinion it's a good bit of kit for £75.

Thanks guys, I'll check them both out.

The Calumet heavy duty backdrop is a cracking unit, 4m width, very heavy duty 13.5ft light stands etc etc.

Much better than a falling back drop on your customers.

Got the same, very nice stands was a little concerned there was a little give on the cross beam, but it took a 3m white paper fine. If you're looking at something else definitely consider getting air cushioned stands, prevents any equipment crashing down, and very good as a studio lighting stand to hold studio flashes.

Not had any problems with mine yet (with heavy vinyl backdrop). Top bar is in sections to allow different roll widths (as most are), stands are thick and solid, bag is compact and compartments keep it all as new when in transit

I'm still undecided about this. I'm not sure yet what kind of work I'll be doing most of and really want this to be portable. Maybe I'll go for a smaller collapsable solution and leave the big vinyl etc as we have a studio. Decisions.

I can't fault the Lencarta one, fantastic at the price and very easy to put up.
