I need to photograph individual pairs of pistol grips which are all various shades of brown. What's the best background colour I can use which will best show a fairly accurate rendition for each pair?
I'll be set up next to a window using the natural light.

Thanks a lot
Garry

I'd say white (that's what I'd use).

EDIT: I did suggest another reason to use white but I've just seen you're shooting film, so my point was irrelevant

Suggest away, I'm using digital for this. Either an old Canon A30, or a Ricoh GRD.
Cheers.

Was just going to say that with a white background you hve something concrete to set your WB from. Plus white is a nice clean BG colour that's not going to distract from the subject.

White is an obvious background choice, but I'm concerned about the lighting...

If you're planning to rely on just window light then you may have problems avoiding/controlling shadows on the background, plus you'll find it difficult to control the light on the background (as well as on the subjects of course) so you'll find it difficult to control its shade or the graduate it in any way.

Black would be much easier.
