Hellooo!

I am after some advice on buying my first background material for my new (at home) studio I am setting up. I have seen many types and a few different prices.

I am grateful for any advice you can offer.

My subjects will be mostly my 6 month old baby, the dog, and maybe the other half :|

Hi. I've recently visited a fabric shop in town, and bought a 5 meter x 2.5 meter length of a fabric called calico - very much like linen, but maybe slight coarser, but it's still quite a fine weave. i picked it up as an end of roll for £2 a meter. it accepts colour dyes very well and doesn't seem to wrinkle as much as i thought it would.

Muslin is usually pretty common and fairly cheep to pick up in bulk, if your going for cloth I would probably get some of that.

If you want black, the best stuff is black velvet - but then that's more expensive :)

You could always try some vinyl - expensive but its hard wearing, easily cleanable and seemless (wont wrinkle crease etc)

I use paper rolls personally - works a treat, but with small children and animals its likely to get messy fast :)

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to head down to the local fabric shop armed with a bit more knowledge!

I did have a look on Ebay for the Muslin but alas, living in Jersey, Channel Islands, they won't ship tro me without increasing the P&P to International rates which bumps it up too much.
