Hi

Before I upgraded my laptop to win 7 I backed up all my photos onto a separate hard drive. I used windows backup.
I restored the photos onto the upgraded laptop but all the jpegs have a 0kb size on my harddrive.

Does anybody know why this has happened and is there anything i can do to get my images back. I dont hold much hope of the last part.

First of all check that the photos have actually transferred to the backup drive (I just copy and paste into a folder instead of using windows). If they have, just copy and paste them back to the laptop.
However, some external drives have proprietary software and will only copy back from the drive when it's installed. My WD Passport drive does this and nothing shows on the hard drive until I run the software.
 
It would appear that when I backed up the photos they were 0kb.
I guess I've lost them.
 
its possible they might still be on the original hard drive and accesible to recovery software - so long as the same segments weren't overwritten they might still be there
