Just a rant and Im VERY peed off!

Order from Bristol cameras, get email to say gone through etc.. delivery should be within 2 days. Nothing, that was last Wednesday! Email them yesterday, to be told by email because they couldnt find anyone on sales  that they are out of stock! The email they sent says they will inform of all aspects of the process and will contact you immediately should there be a problem with delivery or stock levels etc.... NOTHING!! One not to be trusted.

Order a lot of gear from Backdrop Source, again last Wednesday. Phone me on Friday to say order sent, will be here Tuesday at the latest, NOTHING!! Ring them today, oh it will be with you tomorrow at the latest! Doesnt help my client arriving at 11.30 does it, when I need some of the stuff I ordered from them! Again, another let down!!!

most stores are crap for emailing you about out of stock items or if there is any delay

as for the second one that will teach you to leave things to the last minute lol

LOL! I deliberately chose a company that was recommended, its a shame you cant trust what they tell you.

Hope you get a better service Jay.

No surprise re Bristol Cameras (sorry Jay ;))
I have stopped using them, the last three orders I made all played out as yours, payment taken, promised delivery then nothing until I chased, then just an email reply saying out of stock, in one case they could not even guess at a new date but noone was 'available' to make a refund.
Avoid.

So more "the norm" with them. Never mind chaps, we know for next time.

I'm sure Bristol trading standards may like to hear about them. I'm sure its illegal to take payment for an item knowingly out of stock.... We'll see what happens to my order. Its only a tripod head, but at this rate my new orchids will have lost the flowers before it arrives!

Phonecall from them (Backdrop source) today saying the backdrop I ordered was not in stock and could take 2 WEEKS to arrive, which of course proves they were lying about sending it TWICE!! They are now going to send me the larger size at no extra cost. Some compensation, but doesnt excuse lies!!!

Stuff arrived today, lets just say they appear not to be able to count either!!;);):whistling::whistling::whistling:

Hmm - I've used Bristol Cameras a few times and never had any trouble.
Last order was my 5DII via their website knowing it was out of stock.
They didn't take payment till they had one to deliver.
Based on my experiences I'd have recommend them.

Jay12329 - there were huge waiting lists for the 5DII when it came out - it seemed a significant proportion (half? third?) of the suppliers demanded full payment up front. So I suspect it is perfectly legal; just morally questionable...

The few times I've used Bristol cameras they have done exactly the same. It is a shame as I wanted to use a shop local to me, but their customer service was poor.

Sorry to hear that Kieran. I cancelled my order with them, and told them they were in breach of contract, they cancelled it immediately. ;)

Backdrop source did send the stuff eventually, Im pleased with what they sent. ;)

i ordered some bits from bristol cameras about this time last year
part of the order arrived and the rest had to be ordered with no specified date
they did refund me for the bits not sent out but i think they are quite experienced at that part
i will not use them again

My order has sat at a status of 'Downloaded' for the last 4 days. WTF does that mean?!

J

Just called them, and when they eventually picked up and he eventually found the right man. They are expecting the ball heads at the end of this week, and he will call me when they are in.
Fobbed off much? grrrr.

Talk about mess-up. 2 & half years ago I ordered a white muslin backdrop form Backdrop Source. Paid for next day delivery and nothing turned up for 3 days. Bit miffed I got on phone and had a good whinge. Very sorry sir we are having a few technical difficulties with our warehouse system at the moment. You should get it the next day or so, we are resending this afternoon. Sure enough the following day Rat.. a.. tat. tat. on the door.
Opened it to find DHL man with 3 very large box`s "These are yours geezer". Ok I say and take all three of them indoors.

1X White Muslin
1X Black Muslin
1 Background support system
2 soft boxes
2 soft box stands
3 bulbs
1x Boom lighting system
2x holdals to carry the above.

Raced to log on to credit card company to find, only charged £20 for 1 white muslin background. Then I get a phone call the next day from them to say, am I happy with my order ? Happy more like Merry Crimbo mate......were very sorry for delays we had a trainee in the warehouse. I just start to tell him I have been sent a black backdrop as well as the white when he burst in and cuts me off saying "dont worry sir" its our fault the lad will be dealt with, say no more as way of apology for not getting next day service as was ordered. Over the moon and dancing with joy.

2 & half years later over £600 better off I cant sing their praise high enough. Would I order there again ? Not likely mate......Next time I will get the damp sqiud.....

Bristol cameras had the best price on a Manfrotto monopod recently - however I expected there to be a delay - and there was - but it did turn up after about a week and a half. I'd planned this delay into my timescale requirements so was fine :) I think they order most stuff on demand rather than keep a huge stock....

I ordered a Lowepro Toploader from Bristol Cameras on Mon 25th, just before I read this thread :bonk: Today it was still showing as "downloaded" so I rang to ask what was happening. A very polite chap went to check stock, told me they had some and it should be with me by "early next week". So why wasn't it posted out Tues 26th? We shall see. I suppose if it lands here on Monday it will be right on their 2-5 working days delivery. Also, immediately after I ordered the price went up £9 on the site!

So, seconds after my last post, I checked my emails, and lo and behold, from Bristol Cameras, "We are pleased to inform you that this item has now come into stock and your order will be processed within the next 48 hours." , this would be 10mins after my call. No cause for concern here, but tardy IMHO.

And at 12.30 the following....

"The status of your order has recently been updated by our team.

------------------------------------------------------

Receipt Number: *****

Status update: Order Completed

Product(s) Shipped
1 x Lowepro Toploader Pro 75 AW

Your complete order or remaining back ordered item(s) have now left our dispatch center and should be with you within 48 hours."

And it arrived first thing this morning, less than 24hrs after my phone call! :)

you're scaring me guys... just ordered a 300 quid lens from bristol cameras.... it's been "downloaded" the last 2 days, so far nothing more....

I'll give them another 2 more working days to do "something" before i start calling up and hassling them.... will also have a VERY low threshold of canceling and then calling up credit card company if they are out of stock.....

if they are reading this, they should know that if they keep this up, they wont in business much longer.... there are countless stories regarding them with stories like above on many sites... shape up guys, or prepare for bankruptcy!

I had a pretty iffy experience with Bristol cameras 2 or 3 years ago now. Things might have changed but it was the old case of items showing in stock when I placed then suddenly out of stock when the order was placed.
When I threatened to cancel the order they suddenly miraculously had stock and the items arrived two or three days later?? Discussions I had on the phone with them gave me the impression they we a bit haphazard.
I haven't been back after that experience and I wouldn't recommended them.

I personally wouldn't use Bristol Cameras again, I dropped my giotto head into them as it had stripped a thread which was duly sent off for repair. When it came back, then rung me and said would I like it posted out. After a week or so I realised it hadn't been sent... So I rung them up, and got the general impression it had been plain forgotten about.

An hour later in the car and I got it back myself. Then went to Calumet and ordered stuff from a proper camera shop...
