not sure if this should be in the lighting section, wanted opinions on price too.

Only wanting to get going and will upgrade when I can to a better system but want advice on the background kit. Not to bothered about the lights as Ive got 2 bowens lights but it's only a little extra and could sell them on if I found I never used them.
Is cotton material backdrop something to avoid? Am I better to get a vinyl? Kids will be on it so I imagine it will get dirty quite quick.

All the stands, boom, material, backdrop support and cross bar, can they all be bought cheaper individually? Or is that a decent price for these bits?

Also anyone got experience of the company before?

Thanks for any help :)

Hard to really tell... like most things you get what you pay for, I would guess a backdrop support should cost £50-£100. Lencarta sell them and they look good on the site.

You have paper, cloth or vinyl options. I have a collapsable backdrop (cloth) and it is fine, although the train is impossible to stop creasing up and gets dirty very easily, luckily most marks dont show up when using flash/lights. Although not used it myself, vinyl has the benefit of being harder to crease, and wipe clean, so that you can have shoes on it and use bubbles etc...

Thanks for the reply.

Buying everything separate is going to cost over that sale price and thats without any light modification equipment. The list price is just over £600 so seems worth it at £300.
Though I do know the saying "Buy cheap, buy twice", wish I did have the money to get something more up market.

And if I find the cloth to much trouble I can always change it over to a paper or vinyl.

I just can't see the point in you buying that for the backdrop when you have studio flash heads anyway.... wouldn't you just be better buying yourself a decent background support kit and saving money?

I think you'd find it very un-heavy duty TBH, and selling the lights could prove a bit of a problem - why give yourself the hassle? There's loads of decent background kits going around, and a lot of recent threads on here regarding suppliers of suitable vinyl at a good price.....

remember to get a heavy duty rig if you want vinyl, I bought a calumet heavy duty cross bar for 35 quid to go on a spare pair of 13' stands

Thanks for the advice so far. Didnt actually realise those lights were continuous. We would have issues with using those as background lights and then trying to use strobes as main lights, wouldnt we?

Its me and a mate that are buying it but he wants it cheap as possible where as I would rather spend a bit more and get better quality.

Im thinking of getting this background support system

Along with a Bessel vinyl background

Would like a boom arm and stand too...
Thoughts on this?

Any ideas on where to buy cheapish mains powered strobes that can be used as background lights?

Maybe posting in the wanted section on here would get you a couple of Lencarta Smartflash or similar at a decent price?

Good choice with the Lencarta background system....
