I bought my first lighting studio beginners kit yesterday and it arrived in the post, I put the backdrops up and I have these creases in them. Iv tried a towel over the fabric so it doesnt burn so I ironed them, didnt do anything so if anyone has any more safer tips on how to get them out It`ll be a big help.

Thanks

What material is it? Have you contacted the manufacturer or looked on their website to see if they have any recommendations?

You could try just steaming them. Leave hanging and keep the iron about an inch away and blast with steam a few times.

Looks like you have continuous lights aimed straight at the background which won't work. Try another shot with flash at say 160th see how that works.. For what it's worth, a white back round will look a lot better with continuous lights, try it and see.:)

Can you get the subject far enough away from the background to render it out of focus? If so, scrunch it up even more so it has loads of small random creases - I used to store mine just pushed into 'stuff sacks'. unfortunately I no longer have the space to use this method so don't tend to use my cloth backgrounds anymore.

To be honest, unless you have room to keep cloth backgrounds permanently hanging, or at least rolled up on a bar or the like, they aren't much good, unless of course you have time to iron them every time you want to use them, i had some from Colourscape, and whilst they look great on the website, in reality they are a nightmare to keep ironing. As has already been mentioned that particular one you have, looks like it will have quite a bit of reflection too, if you can, just go for a paper roll, they are a matte finish, and no ironing involved, if you can afford to really splash out, go for vinyl, sorry to rain on your parade a bit, but just trying to be honest, from my own experiences with cloth.

Not that I want to try out cloth backgrounds, but has anyone tried a steamer to remove the creases whilst it's hanging on the bg support?

Its only a set with two soft boxes, Iv got it on the ground (the white one) underneath a rug lol, so I`ll see what thats like in a few days. But thanks for your suggestions, I`m going to contact the dealer soon to see what he suggests for taking them out.
