Hi All

Just out of interest really - i wondered what all you wedding photographers do as a back up plan for wet weather?

Its all this rain that got me thinking about it

I have studio flash in the boot of the car, but usually can manage without getting that formal, it rarely rains non-stop and you have to work round it.

Thats what i usually do - just dart out between showers but i dont have any studio equipment so dont know what i would ever do if it did rain solid all day?

Do you do any OCF at all?

It's a skillset worth keeping in your back pocket, even if its not part of your usual style. Even if its only flashguns and radio triggers.

I have a wedding this weekend forecast heavy rain, on the plus side I have my new 1dx so I will shoot in the rain all day lol but honestly formals inside and ocf as always and I will persuade the bride to get out in the rain for a couple of shots if I can because the rain just ain't stopping here lol

I've been waiting for an opportunity for a backlit rain couple shot. Slight cliche, but it's got to be done at some point.

Nice shot Phil. Is that two light sources? Obviously the flash from the back, but what is illumnating the front of the couple - another flash?

Edit-> Or is that a reflector brolly?

Cheers.

Not my shot, it's from my inspiration list, waiting for the right weather.

Fab shot.
That'd do it.

I was planning a fill light on or near the camera with the key light behind, or even a key light shooting up into the brolly.

Is that just one light?

Yep that looks like one light up into the brolly lights bounced back down around the couple simple stuff but nice :-)

Thats an amazing shot - would love to be able to do something like that myself :)

Stupid question but what does OCF mean? Im not very good with Jargon

Off camera flash

If you have the right gear and attitude, then you don't really need a plan. I take with me enough of the right gear to let me shoot in any obvious conditions, day or night, regardless of when or where the wedding is

So my plan is really "be prepared for anything"

Me too...

All I need is a rainy wedding and a willing bride, I have everything else required.

OCF - off camera flash - in this case triggered by wireless, so a cheap manual flashgun and a pair of radio triggers will do it. A pair of ettl triggers will allow you to control an ettl flash from the camera position, but if it's dark enough you could do that (kinda) with ISO and aperture.
