What a great place! I hope you don't mind if I ask for some help?

At 67 years old I have decided to go back to where I started and have just bought an Olympus OM10.

One thing I do remember from the old days was that getting good prints from developing and printing shops was a bit hit or miss so I would be grateful if someone could recommend a good place to get my films developed and printed, both B&W and colour.

Many thanks,
Al

Welcome to TP and welcome back to film!
I can't offer help with labs in the UK as I live overseas.....do you not fancy a dabble in developing your own films at home?.....obviously a little outlay for the equipment but very self satisfying to produce your own results.
Plenty of members on here willing to offer help etc

For colour negative and B&W film I would recommend Club 35 if you want develop and print, their a pro lab and their processing quality is always top notch but their prices are quite reasonable, only £6.60 (inc P&P) for colour neag and £10.45 for B&W (its more expensive as fewer places do it now).

In comparison Jessops charge about the same for a colour neg 2 day dev and print but unlike with Jessops the negs and prints always come back in excellent condition! A low res (~2mp) CD can be added on for £2.50 or a high res (~6mp) for £5.00. The turnaround time is fast, usually the negs/prints are with you in 3 to 4 days (a little longer with B&W though as they only run it once a week).

You might also want to check out Ilford Lab who are more expensive but they print on 'proper' B&W paper which gives beautiful prints. (They do process colour neg films as well but the prints will be in B&W)

B&W (its more expensive as fewer places do it now).

It's not just a supply and demand thing though - B&W is often hand processed, whereas colour is usually on a lab processor.

For dev+scan+prints, I've been happy with Fuji Digital Imaging: http://www.photofilmprocessing.co.uk/35mmfilm.html

But the list above is a pretty comprehensive list of the options - don't forget that you'll often need to include the cost of postage both ways, so it often makes sense to send several rolls off at once rather than individually as you finish shooting them.

That might actually be a good thing to add to the list of processing labs in the thread - whether they have a freepost address or not because that certainly cuts down on the postage costs, part of the reason why I use certain labs.

It's down under "Fuji [Burnley, Lancashire]"

The fact that they freepost it back makes them a LOT more competitive than the other places, and their standard scans are 3000x2000, which is often considered a premium by other labs. And they offer a student discount on top of all that. I know this might be a moot point for people who don't use Facebook, but their staff also respond quickly and helpfully on their Facebook page, which is a nice touch.

p.s. I have no affiliation, I just like recommending labs that have that bit extra!

Thanks very much for your replies.- very much appreciated.
