Hi,

Something I Noticed Today.

In Settings on Camera I have AF Point Display Enabled.

When Focussed and Shooting with Thumb on the (AF on) Button the Red Square shows in Preview.

When Focussed and Shooting with Thumb off the AF Button it does Not.

Anybody Know Why??, Am I doing Something Wrong, Or is this the Way it Should be,

Regards.

If back button focussing is enabled I would have thought I would only focus (and show the red square) when the back button is pressed. Basically - it sounds like the behaviour I would expect.

Like Phil said, it'd be confusing. If you focus recompose, the red square would be showing somewhere other than where you'd focussed.

Sorry not trying to Confuse Anyone, I'm talking about the Red square appearing and then Not on the Preview screen after the shot was Taken.

Regards.

My 1D does that but it's because it doesn't focus using the half press on the shutter button therefore it's not focused?

I presume we're talking about the rear preview screen and not through the viewfinder?

Yes we are.

Shutter button is set to Metering, AF (on) button set to Metering and AF Start. I am taking that when it beeps with finger on back button it's Focussed and then just press the Shutter button to take shot.

mine is set to Metering start/Meter + AF start

The red square will only show if the focus is achieved automatically. I don't think it will show if you focus manually.

You've lost me now,

Hi,

When Focussed and Shooting with Thumb off the AF Button it does Not.

How are you getting focus without using back button or is it not focused?

I focus with the Back Button the camera Beeps for Focus I then take finger off it and press Shutter Button to take the Shot.
Thats the time the Red Square does not show up on the Preview screen.

When it beeps that to tell you that it's focused and which ever focus point you have got active will go red(looking through the view finder)
The preview screen is just that a preview of the shot you have just taken.
You can use canons DPP softwear to see which focus piont was used.

Hope this helps

But if you've recomposed, showing the focus point you used would be misleading. Perhaps that's why it doesn't show? I always have it switched off because I can't see the point, it'd rarely be over where I'd focussed.

You can set it to show on the rear screen what focus point/s were used.

Thats Correct its only when I take my finger off the back button after it has Focussed and then take the Shot that the Red square does not Show.

The AF point in preview will only show if the AF was active when the shot was taken.

Ah, that's normal, although I don't understand why you wait so long before pressing the shutter?

Just to Recompose the shot a Little
Testing... one....two

Is my mike not working?:D

It's designed to not show, because it'd be an inaccurate piece of information.

You do not have to Shout, I've just turned up my Hearing Aid.

Thanks for The Info, glad that's out of the way.
