Hi All

I have recently purchased Photoshop Elements 9 and was wondering how I add colour to a black and white photo?

I cant seem to find the function and the help function doesnt seem to have the info in there.

Thanks

Paul

You need to start with a color image. If you are talking about 'color popping' there are plenty of tutorials on the 'net.

most people start off colour, copy the layer, desaturate it using a filter or slider then use layers to bring the colour from underneath back into the picture?

With photo shop there are often so many ways to do the same thing! The first way I learn to do this was, start with colour, then select adjustment layer in black and white. Make sure you then work on the adjustment layer and not the back ground, select the brush tool, make sure the colour square to at the bottom left is selected at black (the black and white overlapping squares needs to have black in front, switch them if white is selected) then start painting the colour you want back in with the brush tool. its a bit fiddly but fairly simple.
Use history if you make a mistake or switch to white and you can paint the colour out again!
Hope this helps.

Or just dont bother.. Horrible, horrible, over used, out of fashion technique.
