Im currently trying to decide which ND filter to buy . . for the money i have to spend (around £100/£150) there seems to be a few options but im leaning towards the B&W mrc 10 stopper has anyone got one or could suggest an alternative. Im fairly sure i want the screw in type as i need it in the next few weeks i have the cokin p system but i shall be upgrading to the lee system in the new year . . and i understand that the screw in is marginally better than the square type as far as light leakage is concerned ive only got some cheap ones at the moment to practice with but i deffo want something that offers better quality

You won't go wrong with the B&W MRC 10, but in my opinion it's better to buy the Lee Big Stopper (if you can find one). The problem is that you only use the screw one on 1 filtersize, where you can use the square one on any size you want. I was lucky enough to get the Lee Big Stopper and some ND Grads 4 month ago, and let me tell you, its a GIB difference to the Cokin P Series which I had before.
Unfortunately it seems you are in a rush to buy, otherwise just wait for the Lees. Over £100 for a One Size Filter is a lot of money. Light Leaks are actually not the case with lee Big Stopper because it has some kind of foam between Filterholder and Filter itself.

Yeah I have a ND6 and ND10 both M&W filters. I use B&W skylight filters on most of my kit and find them great, well made and the glass is very nice.

I don't use them with my digi cameras, use them on film medium format, as I have nothing that takes 67mm so in some respects they are a little limited in there use, unless I get some step down rings.

Might get a HiTech 10 stopper but I believe that they can give colour casts but do not think that will be a problem and should be able to deal with that during PP.

thanks guys im aware of the difference in quality and the Lee reputation is well documented and deserved i dont really want to wait as we are going on holiday at the end of Oct to North Yorkshire to photograph the Dales and the coastline (Whitby) i only need to buy the filter for my Tamron 17-50 at the moment and poss a Sigma 10-20 in the new year . . B&W have a good reputation and i just want to be clear before i part with over a £100+ . . i fully intend to upgrade to the Lee system as the Hitech filters fit the holder and i shall certainly invest in some Lee grads

B+W MRC is probably the best extreme ND out there (best infrared control and best coating) but most others run it close at less money. It has a slighly warm cast, but then they all have a cast of some sort, easily corrected with a custom white balance or in post processing.

However, if you want to use both a ten stop ND and maybe a grad, you'll be better off with the Lee system and Big Stopper - it's well fiddly fitting a Lee holder into a screw filter, and you'll likely get vignetting issues.

Lee's long back stock situation has been more or less overcome now. The Lee has good light sealing with their holder, it's only the Hitech Pro Stop that has problems (it also suffers some IR polution too).
