I took delivery of these filters last September / October and have never got round to using it, this weekend I am off to Devon for a holiday, and want to get some use of it.

Now with weather looking likely to be unsettled it looks ideal to get some use of it

I know to focus and compose prior to applying the filter and use bulb mode etc, I have a infrared remote to trigger the camera, so anything I should bear in mind when using?

Don't rely on the camera metering for exposure - it'll underexpose by around 4 stops. Instead youll need to calculate 10 stops from the metering without the filter.

Always cover the viewfinder (essential).

Experiment with test pics to get your exposure correction factor, but be prepared to modify.

If you're shooting Raw, you can correct colour in post processing but if you want it right SOOC, experiment with that too. B+W is quite warm (sometimes looks nice that way). Custom WB is best, or keep reducing the K until it's right. Setting tungsten WB might get you close.

With very long exposures, you can reduce the set up time by bumping the ISO up for test shots, and turning off noise reduction.

Once set up, take several pics whilst counting secs... eg 15s 30s 45s.

Check the view after and see... Try not to shoot into the sun (I'm using welding glass so it tints more, might not be a problem with your filter).

Try to find something that fills the pic 50% and is sharp and in focus :)

If you search for the welding glass or 10 stop thread you can see some examples...

Oh and enjoy - I do like doing the welding glass shots
