Yes
I went to B&Q last week to find some fixtures but the ones on the shelves were in knackered, opened boxes. I went online and ordered the same stuff for collect in store but it's been a week and the order status is still "order placed".

Does anyone have experience of using B&Q online? Are they just rubbish with status updates or will I find it's not ready if I pop into the local store?

Not used it since it changed - you used to click and collect / pay in store. Most of the time I got a message to say the goods were ready to collect, but not always.

I'd suggest phoning the store you arranged collection from and see if they've got it ?

One of the worse online/click and collect services I've used. I avoid the service like the plauge. If I want something from B&Q now I just go into store and hope for the best, or even better, shop elsewhere.

I like how B & Q help other companies like screwfix and toolstation grow by having such poor service.

We ordered stuff 4 weeks in advance and got told the day before they had sold out. They hadn't reserved it or set it aside, just hoped it would be there when they loaded the lorry

Seems the online click and collect service has gone downhill then, since they changed it...

Silly thing is, Screwfix is part of B&Q

They own Screwfix, but for some reason I have never had a problem with Screwfix. Always got what I wanted and when. When/if I had any problems they were sorted out pretty prompt as well. Although I mostly shop at Wickes now for my DIY stuff. If I need any building supplies (loads of blocks, timber etc) I normally get them from my mate who's a joiner.

I have never had a problem with Screwfix. .
I've been thrown out of there twice, :(
They were adamant that it wasn't a singles club.

There a very large Superstore each of Wicks & B&Q quite local, and quite close to each other,
if one doesn't have "it" the other one invariably will, though I have to say that Wicks seems to have deteriorated
over the last year or so, and B&Q is normally the better bet, albeit slightly more expensive, comparing in stock items.

Toolstation have a more convenient car park so I get all my hardware from them. Any timber I need usually comes via mates with vans/pickups and trade accounts with builders' merchants. B&Q are the last resort for me.

the ones in chester are next door to one another

I have a B&Q near my workplace and my home, so it's easier. Wickes is further away.

In the end, I rang them and they said it had arrived. I needed around 10 items and the store had only 2 broken ones when I visited hence the online ordering.

last time i was in B&Q some chopsy git in an orange shirt asked if i wanted decking ? - Fortunately I got the first punch in ...

B&Q are on my 'cut my nose to spite my face' list as in I will go elsewhere and pay extra rather than use them.

Exactly this. In my case just abysmal/rude service on more than one occasion. In addition Screwfix - twice used click and collect, twice been given used goods (in resealed packages). Not surprised they're both owned by Kingfisher.

This doesn't surprise me at all B&Q has gone downhill over the past 3-4 yrs, in fact it's since they got rid of most of the DIY products and created huge empty spaces to sell off cheap kitchens & Bathrooms that fall apart when you look at them!
has anyone tried using the search facility on their website? I wouldnt bother, even if you use the correct name for the product it will not find it. LOL

You clearly don't know what you're talking about.....:)

If I want timber I go to a timber yard.
If I want building materials I go to a builder's merchant.
If I want tools I go to a commercial toolshop.

I don't live in a big city, just a small going nowhere town. These places exist, all you have to do is look for them.

As long as you don't dress for a church garden party and don't talk down "listen here my man, my shoes are getting dirty!" you'll get good advice, and cheaper.

Edit...I forgot to mention. If I need a tradesman I ask in these places. They know who can be trusted and saves me having to scratch round asking for suggestions.

I have a Selco card as I used to be in the trade. They are usually cheaper and if you pop in and say your building an extension they will give you a card, well they did for my brother. Also, remember the prices are plus VAT.

Wickes could be cheaper when buying bulk, especially in timber when they had there offers on. I remember the last time I was buying C16 3x2 they were something like £1.20 length cheaper than Selco, its soon adds up when fitting out. Myself, I feel Wickes are more trade oriented than B&Q even with their Trade Point.

well not when you look at them, but they don't wear well, in quality terms they are about comparable with 'made for idiots' kitchens (as was), personally i'd rather use howdens or similar

I'm talking from personal experience - 3 properties all with B&Q kitchens , all lasted yes than 5 years (before they'd become unacceptably shabby) , and were replaced with howdens

You need to take more care then:p
I've had several mfi and B&q kitchens over the years and all have lasted a lot more than 5 years without looking shabby.
The main problem with mfi kitchens was the fact that there was always parts missing from the boxes.
