Azure's 52 of 2011 - 7of 52 - DELICATE

Hiya,

Excellent takes on the theme for OPEN, all work very well.

Each has their own unique quality and I like your though process, and keeping an 'open mind' in your interpretation of the theme - well done

The first image has an antique look to it, which is lovely and I like the way you have unfastened the book. That is one very unusual looking book - what is it?

Love the way you have used the two images froma the book to coincide with each other, very clever.

The open heart has to be my favourite, it is very romantic and would be great as a Valentine's Day image. If you don't mind, could you please describe how you set up for this shot and the lighting you use. Thanks

Very impressed with your results for this week.

Can't wait to see what you come up with for the next theme.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hi Azure,
Have enjoyed looking at all your images. My particularly faves are both from the Open theme. Open Book, as Dawn said, has a great antique feel to it. Open Heart is a beautifully shot image, i love the reflection. Personally I might have cropped it not so tightly and had a bit more outside of the heart- but that's just a personal thing. Great work. Look forward to your next part of the challenge.

Martin:)

Nice take on the theme of the three I really like the 1st i like the subtle light and warm colours good job
Hope you are keeping well

Thank you Andrew – yep, I’m good thanks – went out today to look at some Churches – it was soooooo cold!!!!! Could only manage about half an hour outside then beat a hasty retreat into the car with heating on full blast. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Hope we are gonna be able to get together soon. :)

Thank you very much Dawn – ah, well – firstly, the wee book is my little boys sketch book. He writes his thoughts in there and sketches his drawings. We found these books in Covent Garden – they were so lovely...

<coughs a little> errrrr... the lighting is errrrrr.... well, my screwfix bob the builder 500w light, hanging off the radiator in the hall, broken mirror on top of a stand with Crimbo decorations that didn’t make it into the loft, backdrop of the glass in the door <coughs> Not very professional a? Ha – gotta improvise! :whistling:

Hey Martin, thank you so much for your comments. I did loads of the hearts and went up close because the earrings were so little that I thought they would be getting lost...

Tried the wall (ha, too many pits in it) for a white background and different angles...

Hiya,

You are welcome. Wow I absolutely adore those books, I must see if I can buy some. Did you buy them from a shop or market? If a shop, could you please PM the name? ta

Wow that is a fantastic setup, thanks for the photo and all the details of how you achieved this image, I really must try a similar arrangement, I have some heart boxes, nothing as fancy as the one you have. I have one of those 'bob the builder' lights in the shed, I think I need to commission it to the lounge, which seems to have become more of an ameteur photo studio over the last few weeks :D 100% agree about the improvisation, I seem to be a dab hand at that now, using everything possible to achieve my photos. It's amazing what things one can find in the house that are useful photography props/equipment.

As for the famous 'zip' pic, that definitely has aroused some attention (pardon the pun)

Now to think about what to do for week 5

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hi

I found it interesting seeing your set up... I think I need to buy myself a halogen work light!

I prefered the open mind pic of your open ones... I thought it was a great use of DOF and def a dif set up from any book pic i've ever seen before... I'd never have thought of that...

Hope you have an idea for hard??? I'm really strugling... have had a few ideas but nothing shootable... or others have already done it already... This guy walked past my house with a British Bulldog yesterday and that dog would have made an excelent subject but I had a sweeping brush in my hand not a camera... and not sure i'd have been hard enough just to randomly ask him if I could take a pic of his dog!

Hi Azure,
Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
I like your studio set-up. You cant beat a bit of improv. And you have given me an idea what to use my builders lamp for that is stuck in the back of my garage. Nice to see the alternative Open Heart shots too.
Lovely work with obviously a lot of planning.

Martin:clap:

Hey Dawn - the unusual book place was one of the outdoor markets at Covent Garden and doesn't have a website. When I next visit London I intend to go back there so will find out if there is a way to get hold of the lady. Have trawled the www but can't find anything with a choice of books. Will let you know when I take a trip to the smoke. :)

Thank you both Mark and Martin :)

I'm kinda running at the mo... this is just an infill as I have plan for tomorrow for the theme photo ...but as I was going into withdrawal not having a camera in my hand, did a quick photo for tonight

Hard As Nails (I'm sure someone must have done this also) but... my little boy is the softest marshmallow ever :p

Hiya,

Thanks for the update about the bookshop, and I will appreciate it if you can obtain a contact detail for the shop/stall as I would like to purchase some of the books.

Love the idea about your HARD theme, although I would like to be in the way of a punch from that hard as nails fist

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hi,

Great image for "Hard". Nicely shot and the contrast of Hard Nails in a Soft Fist add greater depth to the theme. Nice work as always.

Martin

Thanku Dawn, Andrew, Martin and Andy for all your comments - I do appreciate them so much :)

This week has been a busy one... bit like the next pic - busy and cluttered! Have been doing a lot of photography and playing with my new camera - but didn't really get a decent shot for this weeks theme. Did the kitchen draw, the box full of electrical wires that I haven't a clue where they go... but decided to go with pretty clutter...

CLUTTER

I had plans to do a triple photo for Hard Rock Cafe... but again, didn't get around to doing that and also couldn't work out how to do three shots together (having taken inspiration from Dawn's style shots) :bonk: Ha, I will figure it out eventually.

Delicate is next on the 52 - have so many ideas in my head for that already :D

Thank you all for looking.

I am really enjoying your photos so far especially the ones posted for the open week. :)

Hiya,

First of all you are welcome, I have enjoyed your Photo52 so far and have drawn inspiration from your photographs.

The triple photo shot of Hard Rock Cafe would have been great and think it is something you should keep in mind for a future shoot. If you are referring to my 3 shot of the 'Style' photo, indeed it does take a lot of work and planning, but I am sure you are quite capable of achieving such a result with your chosen subject. You obviously have the creative ability, from what I have already seen in your project. If you need any advice, help or ideas for such a shoot, send me a PM and I will gladly help you.

Moving onto your clutter week .... I love this image. The colours are fab, great composition. Only crit would be the border .... I like the colour, but think it would have worked better if it was a bit broader.

Well done and I look forward to watching your progress through this project.

Cheers

Dawn :)

I'm late, I'm late, I'm late... said the white rabbit...

it's Saturday already and I haven't done my delicate yet :bang: Meeting up with L and BillyBob in half an hour or so and he's kindly going to let me use his tamron90 - so I have a plan for my shot already - hoping I can do it justice!!!! (tho I have a reserve which I can post if I don't come up with the goods). Will be back later to reply to all your very kind comments - thank you so much. :)

Off to the big river :exit:

Thank you Lissa, hope you can stop by again :)

Just had a browse through your 52, you have got some lovely pictures there, I quite like week 6, really liking the colours.

Thanks Michael - appreciate your comments and glad you are popping by :)

Hey Dawn, thanks for the comments - I may just take you up on that offer of helping with pp. I'm trying to watch youtube videos at the mo and glean info from whatever source I can - ha, I have JUST worked out how to do a border in PSE - ahahahaa - I'm rubbish :D I get so engrossed in my shots and don't have the time to get them to look their best - or how I'm seeing them. I'll get there in the end tho :)

Hi, great Clutter image.
Nice and tightly shot with some good colour but not too much to detract from the metals. Really nice work

Martin

Thanks Martin - nice to see you again - so sorry not to have got around to yours and other's 52's in the last couple weeks - I don't know where the days go. :bonk: There are not enough hours............

OK - so this week is a bit of a joint effort

Had the pleasure of meeting Andrew over the weekend and we visited a moss woods by the river with some great lichens.

Lichens (pronounced /ˈlaɪkən/,[1] sometimes /ˈlɪtʃən/[2]) are composite organisms consisting of a symbiotic association of a fungus (the mycobiont) with a photosynthetic partner (the photobiont or phycobiont), usually either a green alga (commonly Trebouxia) or cyanobacterium (commonly Nostoc)

I kinda had this in my mind before we went - tho I thought I would prolly shoot a delicate moss - but the lichen won over. I borrowed Andrew's macro lens - had a little bit of a play (not very successfully but I hope to improve on that) - then came home and put the shot into PSE9.

Uploaded this one first...

Andew kindly then suggested I try some different pp and emailed me this one that he had quickly had a play with, along with a tutorial of how to do it...

then, having read how he did this and what to do, I had another play again today and this will be the delicate submission for last week.

I think my eyes have a "green" and "autumnal" filter with the hint of blue appearing in most ;) - I love the greens and browns... and see a lot of compositions in green. I wonder how other people view my shots

Anyhoo - would like to thank Andrew and EOSPete too for all the help they've been giving me - hopefully I will have given them a bit of laugh too whilst traipsing through the forests and in rivers :D It's been brill. Looking forward to the Spring and Summer! Ha - you both wait 'til I get on a cliff edge

Have put a load of Devon shots up on Flickr if anyone is interested - haven't actually managed to put them in sets yet or any form of organisation - but I'll try and get around to doing that soon. More hours please.... I need more hours in the day.... 34 would suit me better!

All C&C Welcome. Can't tell ya how much I've learned over the last few weeks  Thank y'all!

Hiya,

Glad to hear you had a fab day out

I like your take on the theme for 'delicate' as Lichens are indeed that.

The second two look a tad green to me as the Lichens that I see in the woodlands near me look closer to the colour in the first shot. But then again I have only seen them at the end of the season not the beginning, so perhaps if I venture out I might find they are a different hue of green now.

Lovely composition though, and the second two do look a lot sharper than the first, which is good. Also like the DOF and the bit of colourful bokeh on the right.

Well done to you both

Cheers

Dawn :)

Love your delecate shot this week... looks like you have really put the effort in and made it a learning experiance moving your photography forward! I love your PP work... an area I never spend to much time on... basically I think because it does not interest me as much as being out using my camera... and I think because I originally was a film photographer my idea of photography is not spending time sitting in front of a computer editing... I certainly deliberately only use canons DPP as it is limited and with it I can only really do what I did in the dark room!

You really seem to be working on your photography this year as I had a look on your flickr too... The images are stunning... Inspires me to get out more too as I've been really just busy the last few years. Being married and having a new house is so much more busy than when I was sinlge! But that said my life is far enriched and I love being busy!

Keep up the great work and I look forward to more of your shots!

Mark

Hey Y'all - just to say I haven't disappeared or not done - have taken the shots but just haven't uploaded them yet :bonk: - been shooting A LOT (there's a thing) every single day which is just fab - weather has been soooooooooooo gorgeous and then I get a little over excited about processing the most recent pics :D

great pic of the lichen, especially like the balance with the rainbow of colours in the background

Thanku Tina and Fleur for coming by and commenting - I wish I had been able to continue with the themes... but too little time, too many shots to take :D

OH DEAR - EPIC FAIL OF MAHHHOUSIVE PROPORTION ON THE PART OF THE 52..:nono:.. but but but... in my defence - I am taking photos everyday with my new gear and going out every single weekend with folk from TP - so... the 52 kinda took a nose dive as I have been playing around with so many different themes. There's about 15+ of us meeting up on Saturday at Sparkwell - so, I can't see me getting around to doing any more of the 52 - but hey, when I'm shooting each day, I guess that's OK. ;)

Pete B - thanku so much - so very pleased you looked on my flickr... I can't upload really at the mo as my laptop is in the repair shop <grrrrrr> so have one of the school laptops which just isn't cut out for raw photos with only a 60gig hard drive :gag: Do have a couple of threads going somewhere - and I reckon they'll be a sparkwell one at some stage too.

Have a few thousand to process - but hey, I'm happy just shooting even when I don't process them. Peace, that's what photography is, peace.

Love a big eye'd bird with a hairy eyeball

<oh my, got a nifty fifty too - slap my wrist - love a bit of bokeh>
