Ended up here via Google and a couple of weeks surfing.

Son (12) has developed an interest in photography so I'm doing my best to swot up on the kind of things that will be of help to him.

He's got a fairly standard Olympus point and shoot and we're going along to a photography club in September so we'll see where his interest and enthusiasm takes us.

Me?

I've had an Olympus Mju II for the last 10 years and have never felt the need to move to digital.

We both went in to a branch of Jessops today to see just what floated our respective boats. My son loved the feel and the features of the big DSLRs, I bought some Ilford 400 HP5 and an Olympus Trip off eBay. So, it looks like we will be a digital and film household although I must admit I have really taken to Photoshop and particularly like the look of 'tilt-shift' photography and/or editing.

I don't have the room for a darkroom so all my developing will probably be through Ilford direct, although I have noticed my local Uni does a short course which covers this so I'm not ruling out learning about it.

Anyway, I will be more of a lurker for the time being and will try not to ask questions that may have been asked a dozen times already.

I'm more than happy for anyone to give me some pointers on black and white point and shoot and SLR photography ... recommended reading especially.
