Awful end to the afternoon

Awfull - been in that situation too many times with dogs. Very bitter pill to swallow.
 
Well it's hard to write this but in a way helps, we lost our mate Murphy the lurcher late last night, being left with a decision we knew was right but felt so wrong and still does. He suffered from epilepsy and was on medication but had massive multiple seizures, eventually managed to get him to the vets where he had more and we knew we had to be kind to him and set him free to go onto his next adventure. Feeling so very empty and sad with to many tears flowing, seems all wrong for a young dog......
Missing my best mate.
 
That's you and Ruth who lost a dog last night. Sorry to hear about you losing him.
 
Ruth, we went through the same thing last night and lost our mate, now they're both running free in their new adventure..... To much sadness :(

Martyn I'm so so sorry to read this. As you know we lost our girl yesterday too. I'm bawling again reading this but I just wanted you to know you're in our thoughts. :hug2:
 
Just to let you know, Chloe died due to a tumour around her heart which was undiagnosed and may have been developing for many years. Her fit was actually a stroke and she was to all intents and purposes, gone from that moment. Our vet has just gone (he treated Chloe all her life), and he said that we have to think that we gave her 13 good years, and that she was a happy, healthy dog until the second before the stroke. He said she didn't suffer at all, so we are thankful for that. Sudden and heartbreaking for us, but the perfect quick end for our girl. Thanks again everyone.
 
Be thankful that the end was quick for her. Mum hung on for a few months after a stroke and went from a bright, active lady to a stumbling, dribbling mess in but a moment and went downhill from there - her worst nightmare.

Doesn't make it easier for you at the moment, I know but I'm sure she would have rather gone like that than slowly.

I know it doesn't help at the moment, but at least it was fairly quick.

And of course you have to remember good times :)
 
Thanks very much everyone for the kind words, we're just trying to get used to not doing the things we've done while he's been with us, like leaving the empty coffee cups as he'd try and sneak up to get a sly grab for the dregs, waiting for him to let out a bark to remind us it's his dinner time and so on... I'm sure it'll get easier, as a rescue dog I hope we've given him a great 3 years.

Probably the BEST 3 years Martyn.
 
If there is a good way to go then she went without pain which is the way you'd want it I'm sure.
It goes without saying that due to sad circumstances I know exactely how you feel, we have to dig deep eh.

Very deep Martyn. I am doing the best I can. Currently alcohol and a daft film is helping...but only for today :(

I'd like to think so and he's given us so much especial my partner as she's been recovering from a spine operation for over a year, he's been a great companion and when times were hard he'd be the one bouncing round to cheer everyone up.

Our betty Ford the Wire Fox Terrier is still in the vets for a 2nd day. Scans and blood tests. They have no idea what is wrong with her.

Temp 104 shakes and off her food. Thoughts are rock salt poisoning. But tests have just ruled that out.

Miss her loads
just hope the vets find and sort her out. Even Harrison the Wire Fox Terror is missing her bossing him about. (Yes I know, Harrison Ford) Mum is the not so famous Linda Ford.
 
Martyn, sorry to hear of your sad loss. I'm sure it's not easy but you must remember the good times and the love you have shared with him.

We lost our 18 month old border collie last August due to epilepsy, and although we only had her for such a short time she left a truly profound mark our lives. Not a day goes by when my 7 year old girl doesn't talk about her even now :(

I feel your pain matey, but in time it does get easier, remember the great times you had, and the great times you gave your mate :)

Daryl, I hope your girl recovers. Been enough dog losses this weekend.
 
do not under any circumstances watch "marley and me" ;) - I'd recomend disney's "up" though.
 
I think we feel the loss of a pet more than the loss of any other, the love and loyalty they give us is unconditional. :(
 
Archie and I send our best wishes and sympathy to all, words don't really seem enough though.

Daryl, my brother in law has a Wire Fox Terrier and he was ill about 3 weeks ago with symptoms very similar to yours. The vets were baffled but they narrowed it down to a virus and he is fine now.

M&M was the in-flight film on the way back from holiday a couple of years ago. Had me in floods, even though I knew it was going to happen. Up has a moment as well but I managed to stay dry eyed for that...
 
Nod if you think the film's weepy....try the book...even worse.

Have to say, easier being here in the office than at home this morning.

Well after 3 days they found it's her lungs. 3 things to check. Lung worm, Cancer they think is the least.
The main is chemicals from road and path salt.
So now a waiting game. Could be end of week for results.

Coming home from work was hard, no 4 legged mate to jump up and greet.... Handling it well?... Not at all :(
 
How was coming home from the office for you Ruth?... If it was anything like mine then you have my sympathies :(
