Awaiting the Shopping

Aside from buying stuff like water, tins or bottles, I do not see why people would want this. I like to see the meat I buy, whats instock and the use by dates. I could order a steak which could be too fatty or a selection of things all with a use by date of next 2 days.

Well. the only meat I buy is chicken, minced beef and the occasional pork fillet which, tbh, all look much of a muchness in the packet. The dates is one thing that concerns me but, if there's only a couple of days left, I'll stick it in the freezer.

It can be a godsend for some, there was a time a year or so ago that i didn't have a car for over 6 months, stuck in a village having shopping delivered helped me loads
 
I guess home delivery from Tesco is marginally better than visiting one of their awful stores. I've always been puzzled how they can provide such a terrible shopping experience and yet be so successful.

Good luck with any substitutes they deliver.
 
I don't know about the others but doesn't Ocado tell you the minimum shelf life (or time before the best before date) of its products?
 
I've been doing my shopping online for about 18 months and I love, I hate with a passion going round supermarkets, I'd rather drive through central London at the height of rush hour than go shopping

How can it be terrible? :shrug: It's a supermarket, much like any other, only difference being the clientele and/or the prices. You just walk in select goods, pay and leave.

Surly and unhelpful staff, poorly stocked shelves, boxes pallets and wheeled stock cages in the aisles, litter in the aisles and generally grubby and unwelcoming. But apart from that.....

You must go to the wrong Tesco. Only time I find the one I use like that will be before 5am when the night shift are still restocking the shelves.

I am of that view, also. I like to examine fresh produce and take items from the back of the shelves because their expiry dates are farther off. Since I need to go to the shop to do that I may as well get the rest of the shopping when I am there.
However, delivered shopping must be a godsend for those who are not mobile or who need to use public transport.

100%. Which is why I shop mainly at waitrose. Cleaner, lovely staff and much better fresh produce.

Maye we have a particularly good Tesco, but even at 5am [I was there at that time yesterday morning after dropping daughter to work] the replenishing staff were friendly and helpful, shifting the storeroom trolleys out of the way so I could get past and passing a couple of things from high shelves and as only self service check outs were open, I was offered help with my small trolley full getting it all scanned/packed. In fairness, I nearly always do supermarket shopping online, as I hate walking round them at any time of day, total waste of my time imo but on the occasion I do make the effort to visit, I don't recall ever noticing surly staff or other such problems. Had no issues with sell by dates or fresh food I wouldn't have chosen on deliveries either [over nearly 5 years of doing it] and on the odd occasion where something has been picked incorrectly or missing, customer service have been helpful and efficient at sorting it out. Like i say, maybe our Tesco is the exception rather than the rule, but have no complaints abut them, either in store or deliveries/click&collect at all. IN fact the only thing that is probably going to stop me shopping there for regular groceries is the fact daughter is now working at Sainsburys and in a few months will get her staff discount card :naughty: Which means discount AND someone else to do the shopping :lol:
 
Glad you had a good experience.

We do most of our grocery shopping online. Being disabled and having a toddler makes shopping challenging so it's been awesome for us since little lady arrived. We're vegan (or pretty close to anyway) so don't have to worry as much about BBE dates either, which is nice. I hate shopping, I hate being around groups of people where I'm likely to get knocked and the supermarket music combined with the lights is far from ideal. Also we don't drive, so all in all, it's preferable for us to shop online. We've had a couple of dodgy comments from drivers (more frown worthy and "errm alright luv!" than complaint worthy though.) however, I'm still waiting for my clubcard......sick of requesting it lol
 
i couldn't do without the help of having my shopping delivered no car and limited bus service and shops over 7 miles away also helps my other half works in store too.

As for surly staff, can't say I've noticed that tbh. On one occasion, the cues were long and the checkout supervisor opened another till and came over to guide me towards said till.

We've always used Tesco delivery without an issue. But we don't buy meat from there as we only get that from our local farm shop. I make sure I tick the no substitutions although on the odd occasion when I've forgotten, we've had as close as they could get to it and they always ask if we are happy to accept. I think once we weren't and they took it and within a few hours, I had an email saying we have refunded you the cost of blah blah.

Friendly delivery drivers and always happy to help bring it into the kitchen for me if I'm on my own as I can't always lift things.

I also hate shopping with a passion and have a very low tolerance threshold so this is ideal for me :lol:
 
Order through avocado, those guys are seriously professional, the meat is always perfect - almost like they have bothered to check it over etc :)

Speaking as an agoraphobic non-driver, internet food shopping is a God send in my case. I've been ordering food shopping online every week for getting on five years and not once have I encountered any issues whatsoever. :thumbs:
 
The great news for a new online Tesco shopper is that when you call customer services to complain that some part time Saturday worked assumes you will eat everything you ordered by midnight on the day it was delivered is that you will more than likely get a refund of the delivery cost and a voucher towards the next order :D

The quality and dates are seriously dependant on the the store and the staff. I know this from experience! However, bar one particularly belligerent idiot, the delivery guys have always been great - just make sure you make them wait while you check the order!:)
 
Week 2

Once again, couldn't fault them. Only substitution was where I'd ordered a tiger baton and, because they had a breakdown in the bakery, they sent a full size french stick. Again, the delivery turned up during the requested time slot and the driver (different from last week) was again friendly and helpful.

Oh, and the dates were good bar maybe the naan bread which was dated Tuesday but it can be cooked fro-m frozen so not overly bothered.
 
Marc, just something that I nearly got caught out with last year, book your Christmas delivery slot as soon as you can, I went to order my shopping last year like normal only to find that when I got to booking delivery there was only a single hour slot for the entire week :eek:

Problem is, the slot will only be held for 2 hours so if you're not ready to order.......

That said, there's only the 2 of us for Xmas day so we tend to get things piecemeal so to speak. We also get the Xmassy stuff (mince pies, stollen etc) from Aldi, bacon and black pudding for Xmas brunch comes from the local farm shop and the livery yard (where we keep the horse) has chickens so eggs are sorted.

Ah that's good it sounds like tescos operates very differently from sainsburys where you can book delivery up to 3 weeks in advance :)
 
Don't use Tesco online food shopping now but used it in the past and it was excellent. For the rest of shopping I do as much as possible online - brilliant.

When it was unsafe for me to be left alone last year, my wife used Sainsburys online shopping and we've done it from a beach in Crete for delivery the day after our return. :)

What is Ocado's delivery charge? Are the different coloured bags for chilled and cupboard goods?
 
Tesco home delivery is great. No issues with sell by dates, meat and veg is just what I would pick myself. Started using it when my wife was ill for a long period and found going to the store just too much when I was working. Think I've been in the tesco store twice in the last 4 years for specific items.

Got better things to to with my life than wander round tesco.

Yet oddly, when I went round to to help J's aging aunt set up her online delivery with avocado, it was a PITA from start to finish. Managed to set it all up, but couldn't find half the stuff she wanted without doing some very obscure searches, the the delivery was late by a couple of hours [van broke down apparently], which wouldn't have been a problem if they had bothered to let her know with a simple phonecall, and when it did finally arrive, items missing. Now I am happy to accept that this was probably unusual for them, they do seem to have a reasonable reputation, but for a woman in her late 70's it was all a bit too much hassle. ;)



Ref the Christmas delivery thing..... with Tesco [and I guess the others too] you can keep adding to your order until midnight the day before the delivery, so it is worth booking it now, perhaps just with a 'basics' shop then adding stuff in over the next few weeks. Just remember that some of the offers will change in that time so check dates on any special offers before adding to basket.


Also, regarding pickers, as I mentioned earlier, my daughter is doing that job for sainsburys p/t to supplement her student loan and they are monitored for complaints/issues about sell by dates, freshness, correct items, and so on, so most will be doing their best to make sure they don't rack up lots of moans, it isn't good for their job prospects

yeah bags are for fresh, freezer, cupboard, non food etc... delivery charges depend on time/day but usually 49p or 99p, you can also help CF by choosing a slot with a green van symbol meaning they already have deliveries booked in your area for that time.
