600 f4 is usm :woot:, just need some views and advice on
Tripod, Gimbal type head and Lens Camouflage for wildlife work.

Tripods I would use Gitzo If you can afford it

1348 , 1548 secondhand
3540, 5530, 5540 series new

Heads any of the following

Wimberley mk1 or 2
Jobu Black Widow
Kirk king cobra
Nill
Manfrotto 393

Camo from wildlife watching supplies to fit your needs

just my 2cents worth.
 
You'll need as a minimum

Solid tripod

Gimbal head

The longest Wimberley arca type plate you can get to be able to balance the camera with both converter options and with the flash mounted.

Padded long lens case. The hard case is usleess except for storage and as a flight case.

EDIT. Oh.. the lens cammo jacket is a must with a white lens.

My Partner has literally just phoned to tell me i'm this months winner of a photo competition with one of the Kingfisher shots
and she sounded very excited so a new lens to get even better shots is a must. :D

Or just possibly the one caught in flight?
 
I think it's the one with the fish but will have to wait till she gets home, she didn't say as she was so excited bless her.
This could be my lucky break because she will now want me to enter every comp going which of course means new and better equipment, Phew

Thanks Mho, just spoke to WWS about camo and it's a custom job for £58 and they already have the dimensions :thumbs:.

Ian C had already put the Gitzo G3540LS in my mind but the supplier mentioned is out of stock, shame as it was a great price.

Yep GT3540LS is perfect for the 600 :) I use a Wimberley Mk2 and cant fault it at all, havent seen CT's Nill Head but that looks the nuts too :) Dont bother with a Sidekick and ballhead for the 600 it will be impossible to mount ! and beware of any of the Gimbals that mount on the side not the bottom as they will be difficult too.

Shame Kerso cant get Gitzo as well ;)
 
I would support the view that the Sidekick is too much. Getting my 500 aligned is hard enough, I wouldn't want to do it with a 600. Wimberley II for me for the gimbal methinks.

I am also hankering after a GT3540LS at the moment.

Thanks Guys,Gitzo GT3540 and Wimberley MK2 it is then, CT mentioned extra long plate to use with the converters, can you help with this one Ian or CT with a part No.

Only bag i can see for lens is the lowepro lens trekker,how do you guys get your long lenses around ?

Many congrats Mitch, That is one hell of a lens and the results you have been posting with "lesser" lenses can only make me eager to see the forthcoming shots you will be posting with that beast..:)
