Hi All.
Just been trying to update my AVG, but will connect to the site, placed the web site address into the google search, found it went to the link but theres nothing there..

Any Ideas?.

Thanks..

Try download com.

you may have the old avg, thats not supported. look for 80.176

Or dl direct fron free.grisoft.com

IF the update isnt working from AVG you can download the updates from the website and install them from a folder.

Hi.
Can some one please see if you can connect to AVG.Com, evry time i find it iam taking to another download page, but its all a bit sus...

I updated my AVG 1hour ago. Have you got a memory stick pluged into you comp. If so remove it and try again. As there is a virus (just out) that attacks memory sticks.

Ok .
I have a feeling i have a porblem, evrytime i go to a anti virus search i am taken to the almost same page of "down load anti virus, this seems to be inviting me to down load, there fore i think i have somehting that some trojan has down loaded on my PC. even your links are not coming up...
even the windows update won't work, any ideas.?...

Sounds like spyware to me.
Run spybot as soon as you can.

Daft question but, have you done a full scan with the avg you already have. It may just pick something up.

Its an excellent free program to identify and remove most spyware.
Linky
When you run it, it will tell you what spyware you have on your system then try to deal with them.
Sometimes you have to run it a few times (restarting pc after each sweep) to get a completely clear machine. If it does identify some tricky ones, it will ask to run on startup then stop the programs from launching in the first place before bashing them on the head to kill em!

Not daft, yep done a full scan, nothing showing, the system won't allow me to view windows updat nor AVG home page...
sends me to a google page full of down loads..

Thanks for the Linky, but i think somthing has hold of my PC, the linky just takes me to no where land.

Try spy bot as said. but it looks like you are heading, for a format and full restore on your hard drive. A chap here at work had the same thing, and a formate of his harddrive, and a reinstall was the only way he could get out of the problem.

Whoa! Easy Tiger! Dont go mentioning the 'f' word just yet!

OP - Do you have access to another pc that you could d/l spybot and usb memory stick/cd it across?

Also - see if have/can d/l another browser to the one you are using - firefox, google etc etc because some spyware will only attack ie7.

If it is what I think it is. You wont beable to go anywhere to down load anything at all. As it will as stated stop you going to mirosoft update, or any other sight.

Thanks for staying with me, interesting that i placed Firefox.com in my internet options used as a home page and was taken to a download for fire fox....http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/
Yes i do have a laptop so perhaps i should try that..

thanks again

I agree. I suspect you have a trojan that prevents you accessing all the tools you would normally use to investigate and fix the problem.

Start thinking about the 'F' word.

And as for spybot, about as much use as a chocolate fireguard at the best of times.

Hope it works for you . But I think that the trogen you have got will just take control, of fire fox, when you have loaded it. Hope I am wrong. Dont forget there is a virus out there, that loads it self into any memory stick. And then when you connect the stick to your computor, it down loads its self to your computor.

got to agree mate, these so called spyware programs just add to the problem.

Theres no better protection than a good anti virus and firewall, its all you need unless of course youre daft enough to browse dodgy sites and accept silly emails.

Try running Hijack This! if you haven't already and see if it comes up with anything. If you can't download the programmes/updates with your pc then get someone else to download them for you and burn them to disc - I had to do that for one of my mates a wee while back as he was getting identical symptoms to those you are experiencing.

Ok all.
Thanks so much for all the replies and help. it seems i was flogging a dead horse.
I have taken my PC into the shop for a rebuild, i could have done a reformat but needed a larger hard drive so thought its a good time to do so.

I am using my daughters laptop, she is protected with a trial version of McAfee.

So my new question is, whats the better anti virus/protection program at the moment, some yrs ago i did use Norton, but that took up so much space and slowed my pc down.
I am now looking for a full protection.

Regards & Thanks....

Stay well away from norton and mcaffee.

If your willing to pay then nod32 is the daddy. Kapersky is pretty good too,

For free AVG is ok and avast is supposed to be good.

I use Comodo Internet Security (free and is firewall and virus-checker), used AVG for years but towards the end of last year it had problems finding the update server.

Used AVG for years but version 8 caused problems so I went back to the old version and then changed to Avast.

Hi,

If it's still a prob, go to microsoft.com and download the above update for your os version. If you have the current nasty mentioned above then this should help.

N1...

But getting rid of this is easy as pie.

Been doing it at school for the past few days ¬.¬

Just need to download the Windows malicious software removal tool from the microsoft site.

But I had to download AVG 8 last night(HDD packed in) When you go on the AVG site to download it, you click on instilation files to my memory

But im using AVG just fine.

had the same problem, went to microsoft website & downloaded malicious software removal tool seemed to sort the problem.

regards
rob

Ah the old story, Yes Norton sed to be a memory hog but that has not been the case for sometime now.

The new 2009 version has a footprint of less than 7MB of RAM

A test and reference PC I have running 2008 runs in the background with a similar footprint.
