The latest version of AVG is available.

Anyone any idea if it is necessary to uninstall the previous version befor. installing AVG 2011.

TIA.

AVG used to do all that for you during installation, I think (been an Avast fella for a few years)!

Still auto does it for you just done mine

shame AVG is so bloated these days :(

Have I not just discovered that. Same way as Norton went.

I also find that despite unchecking the option to get a Yahoo seach bar I have been landed with it.

I have downloaded and saved Avast free version. As soon as I finish this web session it's goodbye AVG and welcome Avast.

Ye'll never look back.

Ye'll never look back.

Avast installed without a problem.

AVG uninstalled, but it left a lot of rubbish in the registry that I got rid of eventually.

Alarm bells began to ring when AVG 2011 took quite a while to install. Previous versions were not like that.
I'd hate to pay for a program like that.

Just to chuck another free AV package into the mix, have a look at Avira Antivir - very small resource footprint and excellent detection rates. It does have an upgrade popup but that's easily dealt with.

AVG seems to have lost the plot somewhat of late.

Fancy sending me a PM on how to do this?

I put Avira in my wife's computer, it works fine except for the popups!

Wish I had read this before agreeing to the AVG update when I logged on earlier this morning. 112.7Mb is what it now is, plus the Yahoo toolbar that I don't want. Easily 20 minutes to install and a reboot in the middle. Might try Avast on the desktop and see how it goes in comparison to AVG on the laptop.

AVG are at the madam with that Yahoo rubbish. I unchecked the box to decline the Yahoo search bar, but it still installed. Seems to be no way to get rid of it short of uninstalling AVG.

Impressed with Avast so far. It scans much faster than AVG and it immediately found an infected file that AVG had missed.

Either AVG is a strange beast or almost everyone else an odd setup.

I have used the free AVG for years without a hitch. It uses so little in resources that I hardly know it is there, it updates easily and quickly and as I don't have the Yahoo bar and all the PCs and laptops over 7 plus years have been virus free, but it clear from here and other forums some people have a real difficulty with it.

Install 10 minutes and no Yahoo toolbar thats what the AVG Free took

Even I got the yahoo bar even those I didn't want one...I will check out Avast though really like MSE. Nice and simple.

Another AVG fan, although the 2011 upgrade did seem to take ages to install (10 mins I think). Only time I had a problem was when I forgot to install the last major upgrade - kept thinking "I'll do that later", forgot and whoops - virus,......needless to say I learn't my lesson .:)

I use Comodo Firewall as well and no problems

Avast seems to have more frequent malware definitions updates. 3 so far today.

Avira often updates multiple times per day too.

AVG used to be such an excellent piece of software - it's a real shame that it's become so resource hungry and less effective.
