AVCHD files - LR4 compatible

I've got another thread going on a similar subject and the answer to my problem may simply be that LR3 cannot read AVCHD files.
a. is this true?
b. is LR4 compatible with AVCHD?

Lightroom 4 does seem to support AVCHD http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/video-support-lightroom-4-3.html

I've just downloaded the trial of LR4 and it does support AVCHD, thanks!
