Avatar J.C amazing movie

I found myself laughing at some points, I gather from the prod I got from the Wife that part of the film wasn't supposed to be funny. Still the special effects were supposed to be good weren't they? Again not for me, the 3D effect was a distraction, they should have spent the money on a better script. I didn't quite see the point of 3D it didn't really add anything to the film, I actually like reading sci-fi but this really wasn't. It was just an unintentional parody of how the Americans deal with any conflict, firepower, ignorance and ultimate loss painted as victory.

I see exactly where you're coming from, but I absolutely loved the film. It was the first time I'd seen a 3D film where I didn't find it "gimmicky" - it enhanced the story for me. I was hesitant at first, and I only went along to see Avatar because I felt I should. I'm now very, very glad I did - but opinions are clearly divided.

It boiled down to one simple thing for me. Was I entertained for a couple of hours for my money? Yes.

I wasn't entertained because i've seen the same film many times, Cowboys ride into town, attack the Indians and steal their gold, Indians rise up and kill the cowboys, chuck in a bit of romance and the formula is complete.

I really can't see how they spent $200,000,000 on it, must have been the electricity running all those PCs because there can't have been many sets to build

Visually it's a good film, but I don't think it's the best sci-fi ever made.

I felt the story was a bit patronising and all too predictable. I'm sure that a lot of people will take on board the moral of the story, though I felt that was laid on a bit thick too.

Having seen some of the earlier red/green 3D movies, the RealD used in Avatar was a vast improvement; possibly a pointer of things to come?

Good call about 'seven of nine'

as for Avatar the movie - we saw it at the IMAX, a well made film, but no where near the best sci fi ever made, although my wife who is very hard on films really loved it
7/10 for me
I enjoyed District 9 far better, and the wife hated it :bang:

saw avatar last night with the wife,and we both thoroughly enjoyed it,special effects were awesome,good story..but then i don't expect movies to be life changing
