Finaly I was there... 1 day here in Italy... just back from the movie theatre.... Avatar is indeed the best sci-fi movie I saw in the recent years... it will not let you down 1 second.

Nice story...
Nice special effects...
Nice actions...
Good message political and ecological...
3D is a plus but will be great movie also in 2d...

There was a standing ovation when ended!
I do hope will help people to think where we all we humans are going.

I still find myself sexually attracted to the female Navi.

not heard a bad thing about this movie yet. and thats from sci-fi , and totally non sci-fi types alike.

cant wait to see it.

I have to agree that this is one of, if not the best Sci Fi movies ever made. I watched this movie in RealD which is some sort of 3D?? and IMHO is the way this movie is meant to be seen. And yes the story poke a very valid stick at how things are going on in the real world.

I read somewhere recently - maybe the BBC news site - maybe not - that a support group/website has been set up for people who cannot cope with the real world now, and cannot live with the fact that the Avatar is unreal and can never be visited. Some are even suicidal. Others are trying to band together to try to establish a their own Avatar-like world. I'm still distressed that TP isn't a real world.

It deffo isnt one of the best scifi films ever made but it is a beautiful looking movie.

But it is, it's everywhere else that's make believe. ;)

Good choice but there was just something about seven of nine
from Star Trek that did it for me

am i the only one that thought the 3D effects and general visuals were great but the storyline was crap!?

the storyline was overly predictable and many parts of it were drawn out so they could cram in more special effects.......

Hmm, think you just described Hollywood. ;)

Whilst I wouldn't say crap it's hardly going to win any awards as a story so I'm in partial agreement with you

This film is big news for two reasons. The first is the 3d effects, far and away better than anything I have ever seen. Ok 3d tech isn't perfect and anyone familiar with DoF will understand why, the bokeh isn't yet quite right, but it is so good to be well worth seeing. You have to pay the extra to see this film in 3d, you really do.

The second were the obvious metaphores for real life, and they are strewn throughout the film.

There are always a few crackpots about so no worry`s there :D
TP is a real world, but I have my doubts about the inhabitants of it though:lol:
But there are those that believe Marcel is indeed made up from bits of human life form, which bits we are not sure of as yet

I finally went to see it last night at Croydon and thought it was a fantastic film, I had to do a double take when i got back to the car and realised that 3 hours had gone by. 3d effects by far the best i've seen.

PS. is quoting yourself one of the ultimate No No's. Kind of like Laughing at your own jokes ?

If you're going to see it, don't even consider going to see the 2D version. Pay the extra couple of quid and prepare to be blown away!

Amazing movie. The storyline is very basic and not very deep, but it's still a great flick.

I have heard mixed opinions from my friends about this film

One of my mates say "Its just another attempt at showing the world about white domination"

The others say "Its pretty great"

And another small group "Its not that good!"

Of course TP is a real world, I've met Matt Sayle

Hang on, you may be right, nobody in the real world would wear these shorts

We've just got back from seeing Avatar.
Although the story is simple, I think it's told very well while playing heavily on empathy.
The effects, cinematography, editing and directing are all done amazingly well in my opinon.
The 3D wasn't in your face as such but certainly added to the dramatics and amazingly well.
Although I don't think it's the best sci-fi film it certainly sits along side many of my favourites.
JC has won me back because when he made Titanic, up until that point I was a huge fan of his work and I swore I would never watch another film that he made.
He is going to have to do something really amazing with Battle Angel and Terminator 5 to equal Avatar.
However, I think he will probably turn T5 into what T3 & T4 should have been.
I'm actually tempted to go an see Avatar in 3D again and this is one film I will buy on blu-ray.

just saw it on Sunday, very good movie for the effects/ action sequences/ message - acting not so much.

I gave in and took my son to see this last night, TBH I found it a bit dull, sure the special effects are breathtaking, it's not going to be long before they can do without actors at all.

The story is cowboy and indians, it's like James Cameron went to the Orange ad bosses and said I want to make a cowboy film for $200,000,000 and they said no it needs some spaceships so he came back with some and they said yes.

admittedly I only saw it in 2D so it may be better in 3D but I couldn't sit through that story again for 2 1/2 hours with those glasses on for some pretty pictures

5/10 IMO

I think the reason it's so popular is nobody under 25 has ever watched a cowboy film so they don't know the story

I can't remember the last time I saw a film on the big screen (well it was probably when I went on a cruise 8 years ago).
I'll wait for the DVD.
Don't you find that we take special effects for granted these days?

I do think a lot of films have much more punch on the big screen, the trick is to avoid 12a films at times when kids will be there, I was close to exploding watching avatar, across the aisle was a girl of about 14-15, during the film she must have checked her phone 40 times, light on, light off, light on, light off :bat:

What a body

And Major Kira Narees :love::love:

trecky alert :D

lol I do that at home

It was crap. I didnt like it. The only bits I liked were the end with all the fighting and fire and stuff. Apart from that, utter crap IMO. Waste of three hours of my life! Still, meant that I got to spend time with t'other half

You utter ******* :p

Cant belive you posted that AGAIN :p

Oh we will be having words next time we bump into each other :p

I went to see it with my Wife and daughter, I lost the will to live after the first five minutes. It was appalling!!
The metaphors for American imperialism are so obvious and overstated, an abject storyline with a completely predictable conclusion. Hero overcomes all, gets the girl and defeats butch, sadistic American commander in hand to hand combat.
I found myself laughing at some points, I gather from the prod I got from the Wife that part of the film wasn't supposed to be funny. Still the special effects were supposed to be good weren't they? Again not for me, the 3D effect was a distraction, they should have spent the money on a better script. I didn't quite see the point of 3D it didn't really add anything to the film, I actually like reading sci-fi but this really wasn't. It was just an unintentional parody of how the Americans deal with any conflict, firepower, ignorance and ultimate loss painted as victory.
