Hi all,
When I log into online banking I get a message from Avast saying "this browser cannot protect your online banking - re-open in Avast Secure Browser"
Is this something I should do ? or is it just a way of getting me to use their browser?
Also it keeps prompting me to set up a VPN? Worth it or not?

It depends how secure you are now.
A VPN can be very useful if you use them properly - for instance I use Security Kiss which costs me about £5.00 a month with a 50GB a month cap.
I don't need 50GB as I have a capped dongle for my broadband but with Kiss I can use it on an unlimited number of machines - useful for me as I use about 20 VMs approx for various sites - like this one.
Another use of a VM is to provide a static IP address - useful for me because with a dongle I have a dynamic IP address which upsets some sites (like banking) who then want me to answer various security questions ( mum's name etc).
With a static IP address I don't have these problems.
Also Kiss encrypts the DNS addresses I am using which reduces the attack vectors on my PC.
I would say that everything else being equal using their secure browser for banking could be a good idea - but of course security depends on a lot more than that - strong passwords etc.
