Avast licence file

I have downloaded the avast licence file and cannot open it, i have looked on their forum, but cant find an answer, can anyone point me in the right direction please?

If I remember correct after installing Avast open Avast User Interface then choose Settings/Subscriptions/Other Options. Depending on the version of Avast you have Click either Insert Activation Code Or Insert Licence File. The Code you enter manually it seems, if it is Licence File then clicking on that option will make you navigate to where you have the downloaded file.

Im sure all I did was have avast running and double clicked the licence file and it loaded but I was just Renewing the licence.

I would have thought you would have to import the license file into Avast rather than double clicking the license file.

I will have a go at the above, i dont really understand it, i had a free trial, then for a reduced price i could upgrade, as it had run out, it says in one bit of info, double click the file and all sorted, but i havent got a licence code, its weird its the first time i have gone for Avast, usually i have Norton, it certainly doesnt slow the computer down like Norton, that is a plus, just confusing slightly.
