AV Home Setups

I’ve had multiple setups over the years, my favourite being an onkyo Tx-nr809, that amp sounded sublime! However I’ve now let it all go and just the inbuilt Atmos speakers in my LG TV, they do the job pretty well for what they are tbh.

I had a fling with Sonos (bar, sub + says, but honestly I thought it was overrated, and my remaining Sonos kit is on the verge of being binned as the app and reliability is truly shocking
Never had onkyo, as from what I had read at the time, they ran hot. So went Yamaha.

Don't even get me started on the Sonos app debacle. Fortunately I had the old version on my pc, so used that as a workaround. The latest update is almost putting everything back together, and I can now link to iTunes on my hdd. How they managed to release such a cluster**** when they did, is beyond me.

Been a bit of an AV fan for years, since 5.1 was a new thing.
Currently have in my man cave
LG C3 65" oled wall mounted
Yamaha RX-V6A Dolby Atmos
Panasonic UB820 4K player
Nvidia Shield Pro
Playstation 5
Dali Ikon front end, Dali Lector rears and heights

The sound from Atmos enabled discs is fantastic, and Dolby Vision is a feast on the 65" Oled.

I have a few Demo files that I play when someone comes round and they are well impressed with the setup.

Nice (y)

Funny how tech geeky we all are. I've noticed a few names over on avf ;)

I've been thinking about getting an Nvidia Shield to replace my Sumvision media player. How do you find it, worth the money? I've heard the AI upscaling is somewhat magical.

Its a good player, I use it for playing MKV rips, cannot comment on the upscaling as my Panasonic does that with the blu rays.

Been running 5.1 for about 20 years, which grew from my original amp + two speakers when I purchased an AV amp. The current amp will support 7.1 and switches six HDMI inputs, but I haven't gone past 5 speakers plus subwoofer and won't until I can completely renovate my lounge. The amp has 3 HDMI outputs as well, so at some point I'm going to use one of them to provide HDMI distribution around the house using ethernet baluns. That project is a long way down the list though.

Finally got my surround setup sorted and EQ fine tuned for crystal clear dialogue. Next up is a sub, either BK or SVS. Probably the latter as I quite fancy the app to control it.

Decided on a BK sub. Once the physical controls are dialled in, any further adjustments are controlled via the Denon software anyway. Plus, their aftercare is supposed to be epic with easy replacement of parts in the future. I'm hoping it performs to expectations.

I'm more than happy with mine. Super easy to get sorted (y)

Cheers, I set it up and ran the Audyssey calibration again. Fired up Batman 3 DTS HD Master, it's a beast and I've only got it set at half yet still had to turn it down in the AVR. But the big difference is how much the fronts have opened up now that they can focus on mid and high range. Loving it!

Me and MrsFiend have a house over in Thailand and I did look into buying a Kef system in Thailand but the price was extortionate compared to the UK.... So I acquired 4 Kef 2005 Eggs and added a 3001 centre and over the course of a couple of trips smuggled them over to Thailand.... Haven't actually built the system up yet but I'll buy a decent subwoofer out there and have a Marantz slimline AVR I can use to drive the system....

During our last trip to Thailand we purchased a Samsung QE55QN70F TV... We got it for a great price, much lower than what it is priced in the UK, it was 40% cheaper than the lowest price I've seen it in the UK!!!. Thanks to having a great 5G signal at the house was able to use to for streaming and by using a VPN was able to stream British TV..... Wearing ANC headphones I could also watch TV without hearing her gossip with her sister!!!

The Marantz AVR and Kef Eggs came out of storage and got tested .... all good!!!

Since being back in the UK I've been acquiring what'll be needed to install the system when we make our next visit..... I measured the cable runs so know how much speaker cable is required and I've purchased some decent QED speaker cable to take over with us next trip....
