Autofocus stutter Issue: Nikon 50mm 1.4G

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone else had had any issues with the above lens when trying to autofocus on a subject in IMO comparatively good light and contrast to the background?

I got it on my D800 on Saturday but am sure it's happened before on my D3 also, using auto area and shutter focus and AF-ON- the focus motor seems to only move a small amount then gives in, I then autofocus again and it does similar, it continues moves little increments towards where you think it would normally turn to rather than it just zipping into focus. To rectify it all I've done is switched the camera(s) off and detached and re-attached and then it seems to work straight off with the same subject and composition.

Anyone come across this? is it a known problem or is it something I am doing?- any assistance would be appreciated.

Sounds like a fault to me. If it has happened with two cameras then that suggests a fault in the lens. Make sure the electrical contacts are clean.

Thank you Doug, I will double check the contacts. It's just always guaranteed to do it just when you need it to focus ASAP!
